Editorial Reviews

2008 two CD set. French entertainer and songwriter Charles Aznavour is the last of the living 'quatre g‚ants de la chanson' ( the four giants of chanson). The great Aznavour wrote some seven hundred sets of lyrics during the seventy active years of his career and set almost one thousand to music. This double disc set presents contains 40 recordings made between 1951 and 1956. The selected chansons document the singer's rise to fame and his first years of success. ''Aznavour was the first to dare sing about love in such an unprecedented manner.'' (Maurice Chevalier). The 'Napoleon of chanson' has been singing about love continually for more than 60 years: this dedication and his unshakeable optimism are the power sources of a man who ended his autobiography published in 2003 with the words: 'To be continued?' Hopefully! Membran.
