Love this album!, April 27, 2009
I have to say that I find this to be an excellent album, that I would recommend to anyone. This cd has had a long stay in my cd player in the car and when it does get swiched out it usually finds it's way back in very quickly for another extended play. This has quickly become one of my favored albums.

Pretty ok..., April 14, 2009
I originally did one review of this when it first came out, but since then decided to make a new review of this. I will first say that their first release Lucidity was a masterpiece and one of my favorite CDs. It had everything: the music, the choruses, the singing and the lyrics. Basically the whole nine yards. I was first taken aback by April Rain, because it did not sound too symphonic metal to me. The choruses were taken out, and there were no extra vocals except for Marco's from Nightwish. At first listen I thought, what the heck? It just didn't appeal to me. I put it on my Ipod either way, and after listening a few more times, I realized it isn't that bad. There are a few songs that personally I don't like on here, no way any amount of listening can make me like it, such as "On the Other Side" or "Control the Storm". That song is really annoying, mostly because it is flat and repetitive referring to "On the Other Side". "Control the Storm" I think was ruined by the beginning of the song, because I didn't like the singing, but liked it in the middle. I either way can't seem to like those two songs. However, songs that do resemble their original selves are "April Rain" and "Stay Forever". The reason I grew to appreciate this CD is the guitar playing, which is just phenomenal, it really is. Their knowledge of their instruments is just wonderful and I don't really care about the lyrics, as much as the music itself. The lyrics are nothing special, but I can't get enough of the guitar playing. I really think this could've been appreciated more if this was their first CD and fans didn't have Lucidity to compare it to. However, I think about the fact that Lucidity wasn't just Delain, but a number of other people. Considering this is their first real release on their own, it's pretty darn good. I say the same about Nightwish's first Cd, the vocals were terrible, but their second release was awesome. I think they should've used the growling more, it really could've brought more to the release, but maybe they will learn from this and through this "experiment" come out with an awesome release once again.

Delain... what happened?, April 21, 2009
I have been an avid Delain fan after snagging their first album, "Lucidity." That album is perfect. Charlotte's voice is beautiful and uplifting, and the songs are heavy and catchy. Wonderful, wonderful album! I waited on the edge of my seat for their second release, "April Rain," and when I finally did manage to get my hands on it, I found myself feeling remarkably disappointed... perhaps even betrayed!
This album is nothing like Lucidity. The songs are flat and unremarkable. I had a hard time discerning one track from another; they all sound the same! It almost seems like Delain is trying too hard for that 'Evanescence'-type sound and straying away from their true metal roots that made them so popular. I've given this album multiple listens and still can't find a good thing to say about it. The title track, April Rain, is the only standout moment from the album, and even then it doesn't come close to any of the tracks from Lucidity.
I have to ask you again, Delain... what happened?
-- A very disappointed fan
