Hot Damn!,
By
This review is from: Apsara Jet (Paperback)
A well written story, lots of action and adventure, a lot of fun. Only a few people living will know what is true and what is not. One has to remember though, that I am A. P. Scott. Although in the story I am a (at least in part) ficton of the mind, I have spent time in parts of central and southern Africa, Somilia, Central America, the Caribbean, Indochina and a few other places, resently under the B-52s bombing Tora Bora. The adventure never stops, I love it so. The book brings out the aventure, the spirit and the sweat of the guys who live on the edge, love it, and sometimes pay the price. Thanks Nicholas, you have been there and you can tell the story.

If you dream of SE Asian adventures, miss your own OR are just looking for new ways to get into trouble on your next visit...then "Apsara Jet" is for you.
This pulp fiction paramilitary pilot's tale moves like Indiana Jones on steroids. Er, make that Viagra because there's plenty of sex and I can't believe our 60+ heroes could have "stood up to the challenges" without it. The author's expertise with aircraft, navigation, weapons, women and the back streets of Bangkok comes across loud and clear. Even experienced Asian hands will learn something, or enjoy being reminded of their own thrills. Merriweather is the "real deal" in post-Vietnam SE Asia storytelling. Get on the Apsara jet, sit down, shut up and hold on...a charming air hostess will be with you shortly.

"Apsara Jet," spell-bound suspense and delicious erotica.,
By Burr Middleton (Lake Balboa, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Apsara Jet (Paperback)
"Apsara Jet," by Nicolas Merriweather, smacks of great old-time storytelling and erotic passages that are marvelously sprinkled throughout this fast-paced tale of love, greed, and best of all, lust. The setting is Indochina, the hero is John Jackson, Jr., a once great adventurer who has fallen to the bottom of life's pit. This time, he is given a second chance, and proves within the chapters of this novel to himself and to the reader that redemption and horrific danger go hand in hand. From battles with Burmese Drug Lords and The Russian Mafia to human sexuality with the most exotic and desirable female creatures on the planet, Jackson takes us on a journey that's not easily forgotten. The erotic passages are among the finest written, and believe me, Merriweather does Henry Miller proud! From time to time, I re-read those passages in the morning when I start my day, pole-vault out of bed, and am ready to take on God's Green Acres and all that they have to dish out! If you're looking for high adventure, non-stop action, and sensuality at its zenith, then "Apsara Jet" is a MUST read. Nicolas Merriweather is a new name in the wide and wonderful world of literature, and I truly believe that he will be around for decades to come. By the way, I'm sure that this novel will be made into a major motion picture in the not-too-distant future. Hooray for fiction! Hooray for Merriweather! And Hooray for Hollywood, when they finally discover the goods! ... "Coming to a theater near you, soon!"

This has got to be one of my all-time fovorite books that I have ever read. It takes me back to the wonderful times spent in Southeast Asia and the great (DC8) that I flew there. It is a book that is very dificult to put down! I cannot say enough about the genius of the author. His knowledge of the airplane and the loacalities is truly amazing indeed. After reading this book you could operate a DC8. I have started quite a few novels and found myself disinterested and put the book down. Not so with, "Apsara Jet". The lure of Southeast Asia with all its' charms, intrigue and uncertainty drew me right into each scene. I'd been to some of places mentioned in Apsara's pages but never dared go where the author has obviously been. Apsara was like taking that voyage you always wanted to but could never get up the gumption while pretending you weren't really all that interested. Uh, huh. I shall look forward to the next one from Mr. Meriweather.

I echo what other reviewers have said!... It is a fast moving story that reminds me of the intrigue of a James Bond -- 007 story. I read it in one sitting and when finished, wished that I had another one to read just like it. If you are a pilot or have visited/lived in SE Asia, it will just add more thrill to the very descriptive action. I got my book at an Air America reunion in Bangkok. This book lets you live vicariously within the story. A great, quick read!... Highly recommmend it. Don Ward Pilot/Author Pattaya, Thailand

Sanuk Adventure In Modern Southeast Asia!,
By Sean Bunzick (Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Apsara Jet (Paperback)
When I purchased this fantastic novel in Chiang Mai in November '01, the beautiful cover alone was enough to catch my attention (I'm taken with Angkor Wat since seeing it in '98!)but when I got back to my apartment and started reading this book, I was completely taken with the characterizations, the background and just Nicolas Merriweather's knowledge of several drinking/ bargirl establishments I've gotten to know quite well in Bangkok and Phnom Penh, especially Thermae and Martini's! (Not that my Thai wife is too pleased with me going there!)The storyline is loads of fun and as much as I loved reading this book in Chiang Mai, reading it here in the States someday will help me deal with the homesickness I get when I've been gone from Thailand too long.I'm sorry it took Nicolas this long to put a book together because the man definately is one hell of a writer but I'm glad we've got Apsara Jet and I'm excited to think about any further novels coming from the man in hopefully the near-and-dear future! Also, I'd like to take the time to thank Nicolas publicly for all the assistance he gave me with learning about the DC-3/C-47 "Gooney Bird" for a novel of my own that I'm busy wrapping up at this point. He didn't have to do it but he chose to and I'm grateful for it. So, if you like lovable characters, good adventure, aircraft, sexy bargirls and annoying bad guys, then Apsara Jet is a delightful world to slip into. If you're like me, temporarily stuck out of Asia, the storyline will let you hear the tinkle of temple bells, smell the joss sticks, taste the Mekhong and feel the long, smooth black hair of a typically beautiful Asian girl. Do the right thing and get this book--NOW!!!

Factual fiction,
This review is from: Apsara Jet (Paperback)
The author passes on his extensive knowlege of aviating and an, at times depressing, image of modern-day SE Asia. Loads of believable action. Highly erotic but I don't think any more titillating in 2001 than when I had nothing more to worry about than an occasional zit, diving under a desk when a siren sounded, or not getting caught reading Erskine Caldwell or Mickey Spillane. Good show Archie...er Nicolas?Larry Partridge, Author of Flying Tigers over Cambodia
