An album similar in for to some of the softer music elements of the past i.e., simon and garfunkle, csn&y, aand the like. Great melodies and lilting vocals, very nice to have. Plus, as a spectacular extra, a cover by award winning, paleoartist William Stout, cool!

Probably a good fraction of the initial interest is for Joanna Newsom,

She performs on harp on the track "Good Heart, Money and Rain" and the Borthers Moore toured with Joanna Newsom in 2007 in Europe. Okay, so how do the Moore Brothers sound? Well, I wish the sound samples were available here on amazon. They're both accomplished singers and songwriters, and the comparisons are inevitably to Simon and Garfunkle or to Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
Ick, neither of those acts do anything for me whatsoever. Maybe if I could put myself into a time machine and see them in their time? Perhaps. Anyway, comparisons aside, the Moore Brothers have their own sound, dreamy at times, often melancholy, as their songs sketch the lives of interesting characters. I especially liked the tracks "Iraq" and "Henry Alexander," two studies of solitary individuals. Okay, to summarize, there's a little tiny bit of Joanna Newsom here on one track, and her recommendation for the band/brothers. I like the album, despite the comparisons to S&G and CSN, and think it's worthwhile if not stunning. Four stars for decent music and good songwriting. |
