4.0 out of 5 stars Not my kind of music, but I like it.
I must admit, I am most partial to the grand orchestral style music of composers like John Williams, Carl Orff, Gustav Holst, etc, and almost immediately eschew anything that is in contrast. After listening to the "Coast to Coast A.M." radio show with Art Bell in October of 1999, I heard the music of Cusco for the first time and was struck by the haunting and rythmic...

3.0 out of 5 stars Best of Cusco is much better
The re-make of 'Flying Condor' into a cheap, disco sound was such a disappointment that I never again listened to this CD.
The 'Flying Condor' version on "The Best of Cusco" is such an incredibly beautiful piece of music. This is the CD I would encourage everyone to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not my kind of music, but I like it., March 12, 2002
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
I must admit, I am most partial to the grand orchestral style music of composers like John Williams, Carl Orff, Gustav Holst, etc, and almost immediately eschew anything that is in contrast. After listening to the "Coast to Coast A.M." radio show with Art Bell in October of 1999, I heard the music of Cusco for the first time and was struck by the haunting and rythmic music. With its ethnic instruments and beat, it really takes you to another time and place, almost a surreal realm, ancient yet modern. It can also be very calming. "Apurimac" and "Inca Dance" are my favorites. If you ever want to temporarily escape the grim reality of everyday life, Cusco is your passport.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apurimac Is A Hit with Art Bell Listener!, June 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
Apurimac is the second Cusco CD that I have bought with the first being the Best of Cusco. I was turned onto Cusco after hearning a few songs played on Art Bell's radio show, "Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell." I love the flutes and drums of this New Age group. My favorite song off of Apurimac is "Inca Dance." I would definitely recommend this CD for anyone who is looking for an alternative style of music. Finally, keep up the good work, Cusco. You've found one loyal listener.

If you are a fan of the Art Bell show then you know this music. Cusco has a sound like no one else, it is haunting yet cleansing . Great music for meditation. Music to listen to on your next out of body experience. Buy it, Listen to it, Love it . Once you have heard Cusco you will know what I mean. This is one CD that you will listen to time and time again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful!!, August 5, 1998
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
Apurimac is Cusco's debut album in the U.S., and it doesn't disappoint. The music is inspiring, and breathtaking. The Peruvian flutes, drums, and other instruments all provide an enchanting experience. This is a CD I will enjoy forever, and will never tire of. Many of the songs have fast tempos, while others are slower and more peaceful, and there are absolutely no lyrics to any of the songs, just beautiful instruments. Overall there should be a song for everyone on this CD. Some songs worthy of mention are Apurimac, Inca Dance, and Fighting Inca. This CD is a treasure, as are all other Cusco CDs. It is too bad CDs like this are so rare to find! If you enjoy this CD, and are looking for more, try Apurimac 2 and 3, and also Ring of the Dolphin. All of these CDs are wonderful too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical Flight on Condor Wings and Peruvian Flutes, June 25, 2004
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
This is the most *essential* CD of Peruvian flute music which captures the mystery and magic of the ancient Incan culture. The German ensemble, Cusco, combines traditional rhythms of the Andes on various flutes along with synthesizers creating magical flights into this indigenous culture. My first introduction to Cusco was in the mid-1980s. Listening now, the sacred feelings initially invoked permeate my being each time I listen. In fact, whenever this music is played anywhere, I am filled with peace and contentment. The melodies and rhythms are timeless ... eternal. There is a sense of connection to the natural flow of Life ... I picture the verdant landscapes of the Andes, the flow of the Amazon river, riding the musical notes on the wings of the condor. The music on this CD is truly a sacred journey ... Erika Borsos (erikab93)

4.0 out of 5 stars Magnetic, mythical and mystical experience!, April 16, 2002
By
max saravia (houston, tx United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
Cusco's first release, Apurimac, is one of the most captivating and original works in new age music. It carefully blends authentic Andean rhythms, as the ones encountered in the mountain towns of Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, with both mythical and mystical elements that give the listener an enormous experience of equilibrium and relaxation. The first time I heard " Fighting Inca" on the radio 10 years ago, I became so obsessed with the sound, tempo and rhythm that I went to the store and purchased the CD. Among my favorites are Inca Dance, Flute Battle and Inca Bridges.

The group "Cusco" is named after the ancient capital of the extensive Inca empire that flourished in the western coast of South America from the 1100's until the Spanish conquest of Peru in 1532. The city of Cusco (also spelled 'Cuzco') is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Western Hemisphere (since the 1100's) and considered by many the most magical, magnetic and mystical place to visit. To the Incas, Cusco meant the "navel of the universe" and believe me, it's worth the trip. So is the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Classic for Cusco Fans, August 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
This is where Cusco got it all started. With mystical yet powerful music offered within this album, Cusco was intorduced for the first time for many of us by Art Bell on his late night radio talkshow. Most notable tracks in this album including Tupac Amaru, Inca Dance, Fighting Inca, Flute Battle, and Andes. Other great tracks that should not be missed include Flying Condor, Inca Bridges, and The Last Inca. This is a must have album for all Cusco fans.
On the side note, Cusco fans should also try out Montezuma, which is in other Cusco albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly unique, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
Cusco has long been one of my favorite groups. I've listened to many other groups (sound clips on the internet) and several come close, but nobody else out there is quite up to their level. They seem to have the perfect mix of the traditional and today's sounds-- relaxing and yet not boring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cusco- Mysterious, Fun, and Uplifting music, December 22, 2004
By
This review is from: Apurimac 1 (Audio CD)
I first heard Cusco when listening to Coast To Coast AM. with Art Bell. It blew me away and I just can't get enough of it. This music can sound mystical but at the same time it's fun. Also, some songs (like Ghost Dance and Inca Dance) can make you imagine that your actually there at a Natve American dance. When listening to Cusco music, it will uplift your mind and take you on a journey into whatever you imagine while listening to it. It's a must-have for anyone who is stressed out and uses music to help put their mind at ease. Also, if you listen to some of the softer songs it can help nod you off to dreamland if your having trouble falling asleep. And if you just want to have fun listening to some unusual and mystical sounding music like me, then Cusco is the music for you!
