There have been many efforts over the years to weave Native American rhythm and flute into modern compositions. I have found most of these "Sedona Sound" efforts to be lacking in some sense. 2.0 out of 5 stars Apurimac III
I was disappointed with this one. I even listened to the samples. Had to do a double take just to see if the disc matched the cover. This one was just not for me. I thought the samples were really good. Maybe the music on the disc should be 30 seconds long, jut enough to make one think they like it.

There have been many efforts over the years to weave Native American rhythm and flute into modern compositions. I have found most of these "Sedona Sound" efforts to be lacking in some sense. Not so in the case of Apurimac III by Cusco. This is New Age genre album that breaks out of its frequently all too mundane musical genre and delivers a virtuoso performance anyone can appreciate.

The albums opens fast and strong with its rendition of the "Ghost Dance", probably the most imediately recognizable tribal rhythm of the American Indians. It continues to alternately soar and settle through a number of compositions, expertly and seamlessly integrating drums, flutes, keyboards and standard western-guitar cord progressions into an amazing work that defies simple description. From its powerful opening to mournful closing (perhaps reminiscent of the decline of Native America), you will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Cusco will hit the top very soon, June 6, 1998

This is the best CD I have ever heard so far from any New Age Music. Apurimac III has incorporated Peruvian instruments with other Native American music with its own modern flare to create an array of sounds that overpowers the soul. Each song incorporates every aspect of Indian culture from tribal rituals to hunting. Every song is long providing a non-stop journey through Indian life. Compared to other music that will gather dust after listening a few times, This CD will never lose its popularity. Its melodies will remain in my mind forever. I have already gotten many of my friends to listen to it and I am thinking of buying Apurimac II. I don't know how anything can top Cusco's music. It is the greatest. I honestly believe listeners will become all-time fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST of new age, May 15, 2000

I have 1 or 2 new age albums in my collection I use for relaxation and decided to buy Cusco AIII after hearing reviews on Art Bell. Thinking that this album would be just another meditation/relaxation tool I was surprised to find myself wanting to listen to it everywhere. In my car, at work, at home AIII is a GREAT album! It delivers passion, tribal soul, lanscapes so real and lush you can almost touch and smell them. It pulls you into a new world and then describes it to you through music. The most amazing part is that (besides a few tribal chants) there are no words to this music. This is, by far, the best new age music out there.... can't wait to get my hands on their other albums

5.0 out of 5 stars As Heard On Art Bell, May 1, 2003

This album can be a little grating as the songs have a lot of similarity in some respects, but the rhythms and flute tones are fantastic. It goes better in small doses than in playing it for a long time, but it's an enjoyable album to listen to while driving. There are a couple of songs that really bring out the feral side of the band!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Mom likes it!, November 25, 2001

Seriously, Mom is close to 80 and on my last visit to see her she "really liked that CD with the drums!" ...Enough so that she wanted her own copy...That takes care of ONE Christmas present. I have several Cusco CD's and each is just as rewarding as the next. From the great and powerful to the soft and poignant, each tune is a spiritual journey unto itself that never wears out even after several revisits. It's my thinking music when travelling and timeless in its appeal.

I like New Age stuff in general, and the way the Native American tones wrap into the regular styles is just beyond great. While I wouldn't have minded slightly more aggressive tones in a few places, it's still awesome listening.

I heard this CD while in a Seattle's Best getting espresso. Had to have it so I ordered it as soon as I was back at my desk. It is a CD that I can play over and over and never tire of hearing. I have loaned it to friends, and each time they had to have it. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... is all I can say, October 31, 1998

This is a very good CD. Very good. I listened to it , ready to dismiss it in an instant, but for the first time in my life I said, "Play it again, Sam." The second time was even better, and now I am a lifetime listener. The Native flutes and war drums capture the Native American spirit perfectly; capturing spirit is what music is all about, and Cusco do a damn good job of it. Higheroctave.com is on my favourites list and I urge all sceptics to listen. It will change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of CUSCO's best works, March 17, 2001

Apurimac 3 has the same pan flute melodies that are immediately indentifiable as CUSCO, this time with a Native American theme. Many instruments were used in the making of this recording...including lots of percussion, guitars, and of course the pan flute sounds. Through this music, CUSCO successfully communicates the the one-ness with nature that the Native American people believe in. Apurimac 3 is definetly one of the best recordings available of this type of music. If you like New Age/Contemperary music, without a doubt buy this album.
