4.0 out of 5 stars Attractive, easy way to water your plants
I bought the mini aqua globes on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised with them. Water is dispensed slowly into the soil guaranteeing that the roots will get water and it all won't run out of the bottom. I found that if you just stick the globe in the soil, water seeps in slowly. If you put a hole in the soil first and then stick the globe in the hole, water seems to go...

I have the Plant Nanny which I like better than the Aqua Globes, but I got these because they said they were "mini" and reviews said they were good for small plants. These are NOT good for what I consider "small" pots -- 6" or smaller. They are pretty much the same size as the Plant Nanny and the Plant Nanny is much easier to deal with and work much better. However, these...

I bought the mini aqua globes on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised with them. Water is dispensed slowly into the soil guaranteeing that the roots will get water and it all won't run out of the bottom. I found that if you just stick the globe in the soil, water seeps in slowly. If you put a hole in the soil first and then stick the globe in the hole, water seems to go out of the globe quicker. This isn't good if you're going on vacation and want your plants watered slowly. So just stick it in the soil without making a hole. The mini globes are a good size for houseplants that are in pots with a diameter of 6 inches or more. The only drawback is the globes are made of glass and can break, so be careful when handling them.Aqua Globes Mini- Set of 3

As a previous reviewer had pointed out, it is important that you do not try to make a hole in the soil before you put these in (even though on the actual product instructions, it tells you to do so), the reason is because the water will come out much more quickly this way, as I found out. Just directly insert these in the soil, granted you will need to use some care as these are made out of glass. And also as some have brought up, these will be a bit too big for anything that's less than 6in diameter - it might tip over and break, unless the planter is made out of ceramic and can support the weight of the globe w/water inside. They are very pretty and just the right size if you have some small house plants - I'm currently using these while on vacation since I didn't want to bother people to come over just to water my few plants!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect size makes care a no brainer, November 24, 2009

I tried the large ones when they first came out and was VERY pleased at how well my plants looked. I was finally done killing them off from laziness! Problem was that the big ones would tip over my smaller pots, didn't want to stay in the dirt of small pots. These are the perfect size for violets or azaleas. Depending on the size of plant they are easy to 'hide' in back under foliage.

The hole can get a little clogged w/ dirt, but it is no big deal to wash out. It is kind of a trick to refill them, but patience and a small stream of water help

They can take being dropped 1-2 times (I have a toddler and they are pretty)
They do not make good drumsticks.

I recently bought these due to the numerous houseplants that I have received. I was hoping with this product I would not have to water as often, but I am still having to water and fill up the bulbs every other day. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Waste of money.

She already had two aqua globes, and requested more for Christmas. She thinks they're wonderful. One thing she does is insert a plastic tube just larger than the end of the stem down into the potting soil. Then she just removes and returns the globe to the plastic tube. That keeps the tip of the stem from getting clogged with dirt and makes sure the water gets down to the bottom of the pot. If you're having trouble with them, give her technique a try.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low water needs only, too small for vacation for most plants., June 2, 2010
This review is from: Aqua Globes Mini- Set of 3 (Tools & Home Improvement)
If the pot is too small it will tip over. If the pot is too big these will not do any good for any duration (too small=baseball sized). Ideal for a 6" pot. A better design would have an open top so you can refill without removal. Everytime you place it you have to make sure you don't plug with dirt or it won't work right. The glass bulbs are very pretty, but they don't hold much water. Forget about using these for being gone on vacation, unless your plant requires very little water. We lost several plants in just 1 week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indoor gardener, March 12, 2010

I have several AeroGardens and use them to produce plants to be potted in my home under grow lights such as strawberries, tomatoes and peppers. As of now I have about 60 houseplants, 3/4 of which are fruit, herb or vegetable. Keeping up with the watering is a chore and my tomato plants are water hogs.

My mother gave me one of her Aqua Globes to try out. It was the larger model. I used it on my newly potted Bonsai Dwarf Cherry tomato plant since I had just brought it from the hydroponic state to soil and did not want to shock the plant. So far over the last two weeks the plant has done beautifully and continues to grow. I have since gotten a few packs of these mini Aqua Globes to put in my Alpine Mignonette Strawberries, Snap Peas and 2 other of the Dwarf Cherry tomatoes. All plants are doing beautifully and the colorful globes add a bit of flair to what would be a boring indoor vegetable garden.

I'm not they type to jump on these infomercial products but this is one that has worked out beautifully. I don't plan on using them on all my houseplants since not all of them would take kindly to having unlimited watering but am back to purchase a few more for my 9 other cherry tomatoes growing on my garden shelving.

A bit of advice would be to make sure the pot is over 6", that the intended plant is not a succulent (they don't usually like lots of water) and that you put a small tracking hole in the soil before you stick the Aqua Globe in. I put mine in until you can't see the neck of the watering globe anymore.

I received these promptly, but instead of the product that I ordered (blue, green, and "spring bouquet"), I was shipped the mini aqua globes breast cancer research edition which is mostly pink. I'm all for supporting a good cause, but I don't particularly care for the pink color. It is especially frustrating for me to receive a different product from that which I ordered.

I used them to water my two indoor tomato plants and a basil plant while we were away on vacation for a long weekend. I filled them on Thursday at around 5pm right before we left, and they were bone dry by Monday morning at 6am when we returned. They did a good job and the plants didn't show even the slightest droop from going without water, but I wouldn't leave them for any more than a weekend and expect them to do all the watering. If you were going to use them for longer, I would suggest two or more globes per plant or perhaps having a friend stop by and refill them.

Overall, I was upset that they were mislabeled in the listing, but they did do what I expected of them. I wouldn't rely on them to work for the full 2 weeks like the packaging claims, but if you are forgetful with your houseplant watering, or you are leaving for a long weekend, these should keep you plants alive.

I've never been good at judging how much water my potted plants need. Using these has kept me from killing yet another plant (including a picky one at that -- a miniature rose). The globes are also a great help when I have to be out of town for more than a weekend. No need to ask neighbors to plant-sit!
