These self watering planters work great. Plants grow fast and healthy. I have been using these to grow greens, lettuce, short carrots, peppers, herbs and flowers and everything grows well in these. They also are a quality made item (from Germany) and are beautiful to look at. If you have a balcony, deck etc. and want to enjoy gardening, these are the way to go.

I bought four of these containers for herbs on my deck. They do minimize watering, but the water gauges on my buckets aren't very reliable. I didn't follow directions carefully enough when assembling the first one, which resulted in a crack in the bottom of the bucket, so that one leaks pretty badly, but surprisingly, the water gauge on two of the others (which also seem to leak although were assembled correctly) rarely indicate that the reservoir is full even when the buckets are filled to overflowing (judging from the leakage). The fourth bucket's gauge operates as I would expect, moving up to 'full' and gradually going down over time. Bottom line is that I don't depend on the gauges, but water when the soil seems to need it. The good thing is that I don't have to water as frequently. I got a decent crop of herbs last year and will replant this spring, just wish the gauges were more consistent.
