My mom bought this product for my kids and they LOVE IT!!!! The only drawback on this product is that the water tank is very small. If you are looking to buy this product, I would suggest not even buying the kit. Save yourself the money and just buy the sand. My kids had more fun playing with the sand in a tupperware container. My girls (5 & 3) played with this for an hour and a half! After reading some of the reviews, as a parent I have to wonder, first, do children now a days have any imagination, that they loose interest after 5 minutes with something like this. And second, what's wrong with the parents that they can't spend 5 minutes cleaning up. Here are my suggestions for an easy clean-up. Lay a towel down on the table, use a tupperware container instead of the water tank. When it comes time to clean up the sand, pour the majority of the water out of the tupperware container using your hand to stop the sand. With the little water that is left over, I just poured it into a coffee filter and pour it back into the bottle. With the little sand that was on the floor, I used this really neat thing called a broom. Waa laa - this took me 5 minutes. You have to remember, your child is playing with SAND!!!! It's going to be a little messy.
I found this to be no worse than playdoh that sticks to the bottom on my kids socks and gets tracked thru the house. And as far as the sand getting mixed together (just like playdoh) there is a really simple solution for this. Only let them play with one color at a time. If you really have a problem with the mess, take it to gramma's or save it for an outside activity. My girls have had so much fun playing with this, I'm getting some for my house. I also have to admit, I think I had just as much fun as my girls did. It's just absolutly amazing how this stuff works. So, if you are thinking about buying this product, I highly recommend it. Just remember, it's SAND. :)

My son was sucked in by the commercials, and we finally relented and got him this stuff for his birthday. I was very suspicious of what sort of weird petroleum by-product it might be, but it turns out it's regular sand coated with a silane coating (trimethylhydroxysilane) to make it hydrophobic. Wiki, here: [...]
This is a great sensory activity, and a good science lesson as well. Expect a mess. Get towels, a cookie sheet, an extra bowl and a dustbuster. The sand will get all mixed up, and it will never look like the commercials (it's marketing). My four year old who hates touching "yucky stuff" was up to his elbows in the tank, making different shapes. This is not an activity you can leave your kids alone with. The sand is an irritant, and there are lots of warnings on the box about eating it. But it has definitely been fun and somewhat educational for our son.

In my opinion, this should not cost more than $10. The commercial makes it look so cool but after kids pour the sand in, they lose ineterest and you will be stuck cleaning up the mess. You will not have the option of re-seperating the colors once you allow them to use more than one at a time. The tank is pretty small so once the sand is in, there isn't anything else to do.
Since the sand is coated in some type of oil (which keeps it dry) when you remove the sand, you'll get little bubbles of water. Put the sand in a bowl and get some tissues to soak up the water in the sand, then use the funnel to put the sand back in the bottle for it's next use. If you're on the fence, don't bother. Kids need to learn at an early age that they can't get everything they want and that the commercials are usually far from reality. My daughter has much more fun with moon sand!

My son wanted this for Christmas, he received it. We broke it out today. I was thinking it was not going to be worth it. I have mixed thoughts on Moon Dough and I thought this might be more of the same. It's seldom that what you see on TV actually works the way it's depicted.
I am happy to say that this is a really cool. It does what it says and we both found it surprisingly fun. There was a slight art of mastery to get the look just right, but it was fun. I agree with another poster that said the tank that it comes with is to small. If you could get your hands on a cheap fish tank, you would have more room to create. I know you can buy bottles of sand by itself. As for clean-up, it's sand. It's not a big deal if you are into letting your kids be kids. I had no problem with clean up. I would rather him play with this than sitting around watching TV all day. Advice....skip the kits, buy the bottles by themselves and use bath toys for underwater decorations. Play with your kids and it could be a good time for everyone.

Just buy the sand!,

Don't waste your money on the toys, just buy the sand. The sand itself is amazing to watch. The educational value is close to zero for a preschooler, but I am thinking of bringing it to a seventh grade science class to show them how polar and non-polar molecules don't mix. It's amazing to think that this is the same thing that goes on in your cells- this keeps your cell membranes together!
For cleanup- forget the little tool they give you. Put a T-shirt over a dish, and poor everything through it. Then dump the sand from the shirt onto paper, roll it up to make a funnel and you're done.

While the idea for Aquasand is very cool, and its impressive that this sand instantly dries when out of water, that's where the fun ends. It is almost impossible to create any real designs underwater with the kit, so basically as you pour the sand in, it just makes "sand globs" in the water. I'm actually going to see if we can return it.

My daughter received this toy as a gift. There are only two colors in the box although the picture on the box shows several - this is the biggest disappointment from her perspective. Other reviewers mentioned already mentioned it is quite small - the box is at least twice as big as it needs to be for the size of the toy inside. For me, she only plays with it for a few minutes and it takes me longer to clean up than it keeps her occupied. The colors cannot be separated once they are used togther, I can't get all the water out of the sand, and it ends up all over the counter and the floor. Not worth the money.

Aqua sand is not worth the $[...] I paid for it. Luckily I bought it at Target and did not pay shipping charges from the ad on TV. My kids were very disappointed. The tank is tiny compared to what it looks like on TV. It is also not as easy as it looks. We could not make the sculptures stand up. The sand also got stuck in the bottles and that made it hard to make the sculptures. Some of the sand would float to the top and just sit on top of the water. It was a big mess to clean up. The only thing cool about this product is the sand does what it says...it does not mix with water. I would not buy this product again. It might be worth about [...] just to see the sand and water not mix.

My son received this as a birthday gift. We played with it one time and it was thrown away. It seems like an interesting concept however it is very poorly executed. At first we were impressed. The sand does not get wet, it is pretty crazy. It takes all of 15 seconds to go through all of the sand. The next step is what kills this product. There is a little 1 Teaspoon sized scoop with a filter on the bottom to scoop out the sand. What winds up happening is that you are scooping up tiny amounts of the moon sand and trying to get it back into an equally small bottle. this process takes about 15 minutes and you make a huge mess between the water and the sand getting everywhere. All the while your child is anxiously waiting to do it again. This process was tedious, frustrating, & aggravating. Consider yourself warned, if I could I would give this product negative stars.

So I just got finished cleaning up the AquaSand after the kids were finished. They used it in the kitchen. It got on the floor, blah, blah, blah. My question is: Did anybody's floor get scratched up because of this stuff? I've cleaned the bottom of the chairs and put a cleaner on the floor. I'm waiting to see if the scratches I saw were superficial or for real. Anyone else?
