10 stars actually,

First, to the person concerned about the fish boiling....that has to be inexperience talking. The light isn't in the water, nor does it get hot enough to be a problem. I have Bettas. I've had Bettas for over 30 years. I LOVE this set up, my Bettas love this set up, it's easy and it's attractive. I love my fish but not for $30 plus shipping so I went looking. I notice all the online prices are $29.99 so it's worth starting the car and burning the high priced gasoline to go out and buy this one. I bought these at a local aquarium shop for $19.00 each.

Very Attractive Betta Bowl, not a lamp,
By
This review is from: Aqua Tank Desktop Aquarium - Current AQUABETTA SATIN NICKEL (Misc.)
Just received mine and it is a very attractive aquarium, the base is wide and sturdy and the arm and neck that hold the bowl aloft is beautifully curved. food holes are sufficiently large, and cover is good for bettas which have a tendency to jump.
This item is really more a Betta bowl then a lamp. The light element is tiny, smaller then a pencil eraser and puts out minimal heat(and light). The bowl itself is much larger then it seems in the picture, certainly much roomier then many of the glass bowls that are sold in pet stores for Bettas. Calling this item a lamp is really misleading. Think of it as a suspended betta bowl that offers a unique and accesible view of your fish, with a tiny light that will cause the bowl to glow nicely. But you can't read with it.

Why do this to a creature?,
This review is from: Aqua Tank Desktop Aquarium - Current AQUABETTA SATIN NICKEL (Misc.)
Bettas CAN survive in tiny amounts of water; but that's simply an adaptation to help them survive temporary drought conditions in nature. They normally don't choose or prefer to do so. Why in the world would anyone buy a beautiful fish and put it in a prison, basically?
I've kept bettas and assure everyone reading this that, if you put one in a minimum 20-gallon tank, it will reward you with lovely playful and active swimming displays, including changing color flashing to greet you and express it's moods. Bettas have tons of personality that you can't enjoy when they are cramped into a tiny bubble-like container. You are really missing out on what this pet has to offer if you don't treat it decently. They are not fast swimmers but they will thoroughly use and enjoy a normal-sized tank. Because they are aggressive, do NOT mix them with anything besides catfish with protective barbs like corycats. The bettas will either do sneak attacks, taking chunks out of other fish; or, if the other fish are faster, those will nip and destroy the betta fins. Don't believe reports that they will live well with other fish. They might for a week or two; but sooner or later you'll have a problem. If you don't like the idea of keeping one fish in a 20-gallon tank, consider that the idea is to make an "underwater garden" to enjoy, like you would a pond or a vase of flowers etc. With plants and decor etc., it is very relaxing and beautiful. Bettas really are unique and interesting fish and you will be happy with the results if you set up the aquarium compassionately!

Sea monkeys, not bettas,
By Princess (Aurora, Missouri United States) - See all my reviews

I breed brine shrimp(sea monkeys) for my other fish to eat. They've always been kept in a 1 gallon tank, which was kind of unnattractive when kept near my other pretty fishies.
This bowl is adorable for a few of the sea monkeys to frolic in and I don't really have to worry about there not being enough space. This being said, don't put any kind of fish in this bowl. There's just not room for it. Any fish, even a betta, would have a severely shortened life span from living in such cramped conditions.

Not a good light, not a good fish bowl, but an interesting product nonetheless,
This review is from: Aqua Tank Desktop Aquarium - Current AQUABETTA SATIN NICKEL (Misc.)
This product doesn't really succeed as either a light or a fish bowl, but it's still interesting. The light is small and dim. You probably won't even be able to read by it. In my opinion, the bowl is also entirely too small for a fish, even a betta. It's not even half a gallon, and the directions suggest only filling it up half way. Your fish will barely be able to move. With that being said, the AquaBetta light has ornamental value even if it serves no real function. I have an aquatic plant growing in mine, and it's a fascinating display device. (Just make sure you have the AquaBetta somewhere it can get at least indirect natural light; don't count on the small bulb in the lamp itself.)

i have 5 bettas and i love this betta bowl. it was very easy to set up, it's stylish, and makes a really lovely home for my latest betta. i like the low voltage, ambiante lighting it provides as well. compared to other lit betta bowls i have the lighting is very soft and doesn't seem to stress my fish out

This is a beautiful set-up. But, the glass bowl is quite thin and we broke it on the 1st water change putting the gravel back in. We cannot find a replacment anywhere. Even the manufacturer doesn't have naything published on it!

Looks Good, Bad for Fish,

This is an amazing looking fish tank.. it is bright, easy to see into and the direct light provides viewing into it 24 hours a day..
That being said, it is hard to clean, hard to feed and more importantly WAY to small for any fish. My betta fish stopped building bubble nests as soon as I place him into this tank, which meant that he was not happy.. and after a few weeks I placed him a bigger bowl, where he thrives and bubbles like crazy. Every single betta information I read talks about how this size bowl is extremely bad for the fish, and frankly I hate dead fish. If they were to make a bigger, easier to clean and feed version of this I might pick it up, but until then no way.

not the right bowl for bob,
By Peaches (seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aqua Tank Desktop Aquarium - Current AQUABETTA SATIN NICKEL (Misc.)
so I was very excited about this purchase I wanted a tank that did not look cheap like all of the others, it is for my professional office. the "light" on this lamp is the size of a pin head and not changeable so when the light goes you are done. the fish bowl is acrylic and mine came with some sizable scratches in the surface so there are only a few points where I can see through. because the light is very small it only lights up a small part of the bowl and I can only see the fish when he swims through that part. Oh well I tried.
