5.0 out of 5 stars I have to do this to try and balance out the dimwits...
Ok...first of all, if you can read and understand English...the title says that it has a "GPS Interface" not an internal GPS unit. An "interface" by definition is: "equipment or programs designed to communicate information from one system of computing devices or programs to another." That would mean there is no built-in GPS unit.

Second, do you all not...

1.0 out of 5 stars Be careful when buying this - it may not have GPS
I believe that this item is mislabeled. There are two models of the AquaFix that are identical in appearance. The 2797.2 model does not have an internal GPS - you must interface it to your own separate GPS in order to have the unit transmit your GPS coordinates to search and rescue.

I believe that this item is mislabeled. There are two models of the AquaFix that are identical in appearance. The 2797.2 model does not have an internal GPS - you must interface it to your own separate GPS in order to have the unit transmit your GPS coordinates to search and rescue.

The other model, the 2797.4 Aquafix has a built in GPS and is typically about $75 to $100 more. Many people mistakingly buy the non-GPS model as some vendors do not properly describe what they are selling. I believe this is the case with this Amazon listing.

Both are great units, but make sure you purchase the model you were intending to buy at the correct price.

Second, do you all not understand that your rate items based on how well they do their designed functions or not...not on the mistakes you make when you purchase it or use the item.

I bought the one with the GPS locator in it because I had the extra money at the time...but this is a more than workable solution for someone who cannot or does not want to spend the extra money, especially if they have a GPS unit. This device will still alert authorities to your emergency and help them get to within a small distance of your location...even without the built in GPS.

I wish people would pay attention when they do reviews...none of the negative ones had anything to do with the quality or functioning of this item.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Aquafix PLB does NOT have a GPS receiver, March 20, 2007
Amazon was unable to confirm the model number of the ACR unit they are selling and sent me off to eAngler, the shipper.

eAngler confirmed that this unit has a GPS interface (you connect your own GPS receiver) and does NOT have an internal GPs receiver.

You may be satisfied with this unit, but it is not correctly represented.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT AS DESCRIBED ! ! !, February 22, 2007

I ordered this item from BoatersWorld (in reality: RitzInteractive) and got a 2797.2 model that's withOUT the internal GPS, and in an OPENED BOX (manufacturer's seal broken). The barely understandable customer service rep (heavy accent) said that the internal GPS model costs an additional $100. Now waiting for the return label.
