Fantastic. Buy two or three of these pull all the media trays fill them with what ever you need placing the media in MECHANICAL, BIOLOGICAL and CHEMICAL order. Then hook them to a power head and your done. I look at it as an expandable canister filter that you can expand to meet your needs.

There are two caveats with the RD-30 and RD-PRE that someone considering these
filters should consider. The first is that these filters are impossible to prime unless you fill the water right to the top of the canister (to the point where it's about to flow over the walls of the canister.

The second is that the media trays in these canister filters tend to stick and are very difficult to remove. The best way to clean the media is to remove the top filter tray (fairly easy to do), then just open one side of the rest of the media
trays to remove and clean the media before reinstalling. You can also run hot tap water over the tops of the trays so that it will run down over the grates in the media trays, in order to thoroughly clean the trays themselves.

This filter doubles the filtering capacity of the RD-30. I use this combo on a Mr. Aqua 17.1 gallon aquarium, and it works extremely well at keeping this tank clean. I also use it in combination with a Marineland 350 and a Cobalt Aquatics DUO 500 UV sterilizer.

If you find these units on sale on Amazon or Truaqua.com you'd best snap them up while you can, because for the money
you won't find a better filter on the market. They are cleverly designed, well made, and do a great job of filtering your aquarium
water.

The RD 30 is rated for up to 30 gallon tanks, and the pre-filter doubles this capacity to a full 60 gallons.

I paid $35 for the pair and liked them so much that I purchased another pair for the same price.

Well worth the money and highly recommended, even if you have to pay a bit more for them.

worked really well - attached a 130 gph submursable pump and created a canister filter for a 20 gallon goldfish tank. Water has never been clearer. Used this to replace a Fluval.

The trays can be filled with whichever filters, resins etc : I filled mine with activated charcoal & ammonia neutralizer, and Seachem Purigen.

It comes with a small bag of carbon - which I just used to fill the tray.

Very happy with this - does not leak, traps all the sediment and is relatively easy to clean. Great value.

Design wise it's near perfect, save for some fingernail busting maneuver when separating the baskets. I have to shave the plastic link
a tad bit for an easy separation. As to how it operate in a real aquarium environment, I still have to use it, to rely know if it is within its
operational parameters: that could be today, tomorrow, next month or a year from now. I'm still in my planning stages. Thanks.

Super nice filter with lots of customization allowed. It's a little tough to open the internal compartments, but not a problem considering. My aquarium is crystal clear and healthy since I started using this a few months ago.
