5.0 out of 5 stars Great for work environment
Someone got this for my boss and it was kept in the center of the room. It brightened up everyone's day when they passed by. The fish stayed alive for years. We didn't even have to feed it on the weekends. It didn't seem trapped but I'm sure anybody would enjoy more space if they could. One of my coworkers cleaned it every month or so. I loved it and am considering buying...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for backup but not for a permanent tank
A friend got me a betta fish for my birthday and gave me this tank with the fish in it. I think it was a good "starter" tank. After my betta fish finally warmed up to me, he became so active (loved to swim around) that he could barely move in this tank (And there was an ornamental tree in there too!). The water also gets dirty so fast that you would have to clean it out...

A friend got me a betta fish for my birthday and gave me this tank with the fish in it. I think it was a good "starter" tank. After my betta fish finally warmed up to me, he became so active (loved to swim around) that he could barely move in this tank (And there was an ornamental tree in there too!). The water also gets dirty so fast that you would have to clean it out every 2 or 3 days. It is so hard to clean too. Especially if you have pebbles for decorations and I could barely get the plastic tree in or out. I went out an bought my betta a 5 gallon tank and he loves it! However, I am still keeping this because it would be good as a hospital tank in case my betta gets sick.

Bad idea. Betta fish thrive on at least 2-gallon of water. Anything less than that is not recommended. Do your fish a favor and invest on a bigger tank. This junk will make your betta feel miserable!

1.0 out of 5 stars Kills your Betta, September 6, 2011
This review is from: Aquablock Fish Tank - Color Sorted (Toy)
I have always had bettas and they have always thrived but not in this block. Over the years I have tried to use this tank because I thought it was pretty (actually had two). And every time the fish die within a few days. After discussing at length with several pet stores and letting them borrow the blocks to see if my thoughts were absurd -- THEIR FISH DIED TOO. Assuming it may be the toxins in whatever is gluing all the sand and stones in the bottom....could be leeching into the water somehow. Either way even if I am wrong, why take a chance when there are so many more options out there. I have still have bettas and they are doing awesome in other bowls and blocks.

Actually the above reviewers have INCORRECT facts. Betas come from Thailand and live in tiny little tidal pools and have also been found in tiny pools of water in rice patties. They thrive in tiny little environments as well as larger ones. Also, the only reason their water would become dirty is from OVER FEEDING. Betas are known for their cleanliness and can go without a water change for a very long time as long as they are fed sparingly.

This thing is horrible for a Betta. You need at least two gallons! You need to clean this thing every day so your Betta can survive. A lot of people who get this think they can get away will very little water changes. WRONG! Also, that plant looks perfect to rip the fins off your Betta. DO NOT BUY!
