The rapid increase in fish farming has led to increased problems in disease. There is thus now a great need for students and practising veterinarians to master the basic principles of their work as it specifically relates to these aquatic animals.

This text ensures that such basics are available in one practical and readable handbook.

This book is divided into two sections, the first of which deals with basic principles and approaches to aquaculture. The second section contains specific information
which is of use to veterinarians working in particular regions of the world.

Fin fish, shrimps and ornamental fish are covered in detail.

This handbook is the ideal text for the land-based veterinarian who wishes to test the waters of aquatic animal practice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid information, coherently presented, comfortable read., June 11, 1998

This well-organized book does not rely on jargon to communicate data, nor does it wander on forever in complex, poorly structured sentences. Therefore, your brain can turn to the pleasant task of learning about fish. So much that was confusing is made clear in this book; it is suitable for a mid to advanced hobbyists as well as vet techs. My complaint is limited to its shallow coverage of disease, nutrition, and tropical fish.

This review is from: Aquaculture for Veterinarians, Fish Husbandry and Medicine (Paperback)
This book presents an interesting introduction to diseases and their control under the special conditions of pisciculture. It is superficial enough to allow a beginner to understand the principles of this interdisciplinary aproach to control of fish disease, but it is equally interesting to especialists, since it brings practical information on this field - not always available to "laboratory dwellers". It was interesting and educational to read this book and be able to see the problem under a veterinary point of view. I have a criticism, however. The Chapter that deals on Agents of the disease is somewhat superficial and has mistakes (e.g. the illustrations of a Lernaea does not depict a species of copepod of this genus). There are some inconsistencies concerning taxonomic names among the Chapters, as well
