1.0 out of 5 stars Most steps were omitted. September 28, 2013

The author peddles this as a "Step by Step Guide." She neglects to provide ANY detailed plans for a beginning aquaponics system. Instead, she rambles on about the benefits of growing your own food. NEWS FLASH SUSAN! If people didn't already want to grow their own food, they wouldn't even bother with this title. This pamphlet needs to include some ACTUAL steps for how to set up your first aquaponics system, like the title claims. This should include a list of materials, diagrams and/or drawings of the system and how to build it, along with a specific list of plants and fish to use in your new system.

Recommendations about how to maintain ph and additional nutrients to add are really worthless until you have a system built and started. Obviously, she had high minded intentions, but her follow through fails big time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really for the beginner January 25, 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am very interested in aquaponics and gathering information to start a system at home. This book started out as a good introduction explaining the positive reasons for getting into aquaponic gardening ( I was already convinced) and the different methods of accomplishing this. It then however, turned into a science reference manual that lost me with unfamiliar terms. Susan is obviously accomplished on the subject but in this case, lacked the skills to explain it to the layman. The book will probably become more helpful after learning the science terms but, that is not what interests me. I will shelve it until that time comes since there are many other books out there.

This is an overall good outline of what you will need to know. But you will still need to learn more before you start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginners September 29, 2013

I can't even believe that a system like this actually exists. How cool is it that you can grow veggies, herbs, and fish to eat all at the same time. I stumbled upon this book by accident but glad I did. It lays out a clear plan for me to get started doing it. Excited!

1.0 out of 5 stars vague summary April 6, 2014

I feel people interested in this subject already know what's in this pamphlet. This is on par with a brochure about eating vegetables at your local grocer.

    More About the Author

Susan spent much of her free time as a child in her family garden with her father. He taught her basic vegetable gardening at an early age, as well as the importance of growing your own food for the sake of your health and your wallet.

When Susan moved into her own home and started her own vegetable garden, her father was the one who taught her more advanced gardening tips, such as growing vegetables in the fall and winter, making your own compost, and garden design.

Susan lost her father in 2013 and, in honor of him and their relationship, she decided to share her vegetable gardening knowledge through writing books and starting a website at DadsVegetableGarden.com.

Susan, by trade, is an Exercise Physiologist and nutrition expert who also writes Amazon books on weight loss at AwesomeFitnessEbooks.com under her maiden name, Susan J. Campbell, and is a Weight Loss Coach at WeightLossLaboratory.com.

When not writing or tending to her vegetable garden, Susan enjoys camping, hiking, yoga, and traveling.
