Especially recommended to dedicated aquarium hobbyists,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aquarium Plants (Hardcover)
Painstakingly translated from the original German edition, Christel Kasselmann's Aquarium Plants is a meticulous, comprehensive, and practical resource describing a wide variety of common plant species used for private aquariums. Aquarium Plants comprises an informed and informative overview of factors necessary to the proper care of such plants and detailed, one-page studies of individual plant varieties that include etymology, distribution, description, special care instructions, ecology and more of each plant variety, as well as full-color photographs that vividly portray the plants. Aquarium Plants is a reliable and excellent reference which is especially recommended to dedicated aquarium hobbyists.

would be better without missing pages problem,

Warning: Some printings lack a substantial number of pages. I recently received this book and tried to look up Riccia. Unfortunately, this plant is in the index but 23 pages including the page describing Riccia were missing from the volume I received. I have not gone thorugh the entire book to see if other sets of pages are missing, but for $80+ please check.

_THE_ Aquarium Plant Reference Book!,
By
This review is from: Aquarium Plants (Hardcover)
If you buy only one aquatic plant book, make it this one. It's so heavy with detailed information and spectacular photos that it makes my arm tired just holding it. The first 85 pages are about aquatic plant habitat, morphology, and propagation. There is information on planted aquarium care, design, and choosing correct plants. That leads up to the 400+ pages that represent a compendium of aquatic plant species, each with detailed descriptions and photos. There are useful appendixes, too. I own hundreds of aquarium books. This is one I turn to most.

I don't think too much if I claim this book is the most comprehensive AQUATIC PLANTS book at the moment. After long waiting being translated, I feel satisfy when read carefully the book content.
In another word I agree to say this as Aquatic Plants Encyclopedia for year 2000. YUP, It is not 100% perfect, but at least this book is enriching our information source to identify the plants, habitat, origin and other useful informations. Last, it a must have for everybody in planted aquaria hobby.

Great read for aquatic plant enthusiasts,
This review is from: Aquarium Plants (Hardcover)
Christel Kasselmann's knowledge and passion on aquatic plants are unsurpassed. However the book is a bit out-dated as it has not included the latest plants available especially from my part of the world.

A good book, describing in detail all about any treated plant or family. Has an introductory part about the main water parameters, in nature and in tank, and has many indications as to grow the plants.

IMO, nothing beats it overall for detailed information on just about any aquatic or semi-aquatic plant that might interest aquarists. Some extra information from other sources will bulk out fine details on caring for some plants in an aquarium environment. There's an excellent section at the end about planted tanks. Pretty pricey, but it's a very good translation.

Best Aquarium Plants Book,
By
This review is from: Aquarium Plants (Hardcover)
This book of the Author is the most comprehensive book, that I've ever had chance to refer to, written about the aquarium plants. I'd like to point my two concerns out: 1) A book printed on semi-glossy or matte paper would be much easier to be read due to its prevention of light reflection especially when it has lots of photos. 2) Although the book contains hundreds of photos, it would be better if both the submersed and immersed photos for each plant have been put.

In my opinion, this is the best aquarium plants atlas that currently exists in English.
