A friend of mine told me about this product so i purchased it. I live in El Cajon, CA where it gets really hot during the day and really cold at nights. We have an outdoor heated swimming pool so each morning you would see the steam coming off the surface. Since i began using the product the morning steam has dropped significantly. Also, we are not putting as much water...

3.0 out of 5 stars Aquatain
The jury is still out on this product. Despite it being winter in San Diego the pond has still had to have water added, while I have used this product twice now, once a week. Not very sure I would buy this again. It is not living up to it's claims!

A friend of mine told me about this product so i purchased it. I live in El Cajon, CA where it gets really hot during the day and really cold at nights. We have an outdoor heated swimming pool so each morning you would see the steam coming off the surface. Since i began using the product the morning steam has dropped significantly. Also, we are not putting as much water in our pool any more (great relief since water rates on on the rise here). I also like it for the fact that is all natural! I was curious as to how the product reduces heat loss so i did a little research. What i found out is heat loss from a swimming pool happens through evaporation (you can find this on the department of energy website [...]. So if you reduce the evaporation, which the product does, you basically are reducing the heat loss and your pool stays warmer longer. I would recommend Aquatain if you are serious about water and energy conservation. I do believe though that the instructions on the bottle could explain this a little more to make it clear.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware of side affects, July 8, 2011

Have been using this product for about 7 weeks now and while it does seem to reduce water evaporation you should be aware of some side affects I've seen. Notably the affinity of this liquid pool blanket to coat and stick to anything plastic left in your pool. Things like plastic pool toys, rubber basket balls if left in the water for any period of time will get a sticky greasy like coating on them right at the water line. It does rub off with a cloth but is a real nuisance. Also, if you have an automatic pool cleaner permanently installed in your pool be prepared for the plastic vacuum hose to get coated with this material which then attracts dust and dirt resulting in a sticky, dirty, greasy like coating on your hose. I have photos but don't know how to add to this review. I'm disappointed in this product because it does seem to have some water savings benefit which is why I bought it however I can't put up with the issues noted above. I won't be buying this product again.

I live in Southern California where we have a pretty temperate climate. Average temperature is about 70°year round. I used this product in my pool and did not notice any temperature change in the water even after a few days of sunny skies.
