Product Description

Size: Medium

The Algae Cleaning Magnet from Aqueon is the easiest solution to effectively remove algae from your glass or acrylic aquarium. The bottom-weighted scrubber falls straight down after seperation. The bowed bottom weight allows the scrub pad to rest above the gravel for easy retrieval while reducing the risk of scratching the aquarium walls. Easy-to-install replacement scrub pads for either glass or acrylic use are also available.

Customer Reviews

It has a very strong magnet.
ElaineSelene
The magnet is strong and holds together, but purchase something on a pole to clean the glass, it's much easier and will get the job done the first time.
Mike Barak
Works perfect in my 55 gallon saltwater tank.

"weighted scrubber falls straight down after separation" How is that a good feature? It is already weighted because it's a magnet people. Why would you want it to fall to the bottom? EVER? Mag-Float cleaners are WAY better because they float to the top where you can easily grab them for retrieval. They do not "float away" while you are cleaning either. These non-floating cleaners fall down and tip over backward onto your substrate making a mess, and potentially crushing plants and snails. Not only is it damaging, it is also annoying to have to reach in to get it with your hand (especially with taller tanks). They do come with a little tab on each side to tie a string so you can pull it back up WHEN it falls down. Who wants a nasty string hanging off of their aquarium when you could just get the cleaner that works properly for a few bucks more? Don't waste your money on this one.

Not enough magnetic power to clean anything but thin glass. If you have anything larger than a 20 gallon go up to bigger size. The mag float is a better product.

I give it five stars even if it doesn't quite work for my aquarium. The magnet is too strong which is good, but not for our aquarium and fish. It's too strong to the point that it scares the fish because it makes sounds on the glass, and moving it is so difficult because of the strength of the magnet. Still thinking of a way to weaken the magnet... maybe put something in between the two pieces...

I had never used a cleaning magnet on a fish tank but decided to try this for our 55 gallon tank that houses my pond koi during the Winter. As fish people know, these guys are really dirty and the tank is a bear to keep clean.
I love this magnet. It is amazingly strong, (watch your fingers!!!!), and if the inside drops the outer magnet will immediately pick it up. Keeping the inside of the tank is really easy and takes about five minutes every couple of weeks.
Incidentally, I did purchase another brand magnet for a tank in my home that has goldfish. It was much cheaper and it IS much cheaper!! It is almost impossible to keep the two magnets together, the inner one will not even follow the outside one around a corner. When the inner magnet falls to the bottom of the tank, the magnet will not pick it up and you need to go fishing for it. It did come with an included string, but the string keeps breaking. Fortunately, that is a much smaller tank so my frustration can be dealt with easier.
As soon as I can I will be ordering another Aqueon!!

I have tried several other algae magnets (top fin, and the mag-float). This is definitely best of the 3. I have a 150 gallon tank and this one rarely separates, but when it does it falls to the bottom. At first I thought this would be inconvenient, however when it falls it stands straight up against the glass so it is very easy to retrieve. If you have a large tank this is definitely for you.. totally worth the price.

It does the job, though you have to go over the area a few times. You still have to be careful not to get gravel stuck in the scrubber. The best thing I can say about it is that it is all black, so you can hide it in the aquarium easily.

I have a 46 gallon and a 29 gallon, it works great on both of them. I use the acrylic pad on glass in order to get a cleaner surface in one swipe.

Pros: It is plenty big for my 55 gallon tank. I can't imagine having one bigger. It does its job very well! It has a very strong magnet. No matter where you put it it does not "slide" itself down or up the side of the tank. My fish think it is fun to chase while I'm cleaning too. :)

Cons: However, be careful putting it onto the tank in the first place!!! Like I said... it has a strong magnet. I am a bit concerned that if you don't hold onto it enough it would snap together too fast and crack the glass. So just be warned.
