Like the other reviewer said I to had problems with this light getting so hot that it cracked my glass Aqueon lid. I contacted Aqueon and they sent me a replacement glass top, but that still didn't fix the problem with the light getting to hot. I'd recommend to use this light with out the plastic shield over the bulbs if it has to rest on the glass lid. Or just don't buy Aqueon products at all since a lot of the stuff they make is cheap garbage. LEDs work much better then these t5s in my opinion. NOT the new Aqueon LEDs those are just as bad and way over priced garbage as well. Aqueon does have fairly nice tanks for the price but most of the other stuff they sell Is very cheaply made. I've had problems with their heaters, filters, water changer, magnet scrubber, and now their lights. Hopefully my Aqueon circulation pump doesn't fail soon!

This fixture came with my Aqueon Planted Aquarium Kit that I bought at PetSmart. I love the low profile. The wire hooks are sturdy. Mine gets warm, which is great for me since I heat with candles. (My solar electric is not extensive enough to run oil filled radiators.) I love the extra warmth. Since my goldfish like cold water, I covered some of the EcoComplete substrate with light colored rocks that I bought at Amazon, and with plants.

I've used my light for years, and in fact added a second one. I've never had a melting or overheating problem.

I'm getting a larger aquarium for my now, quite large goldfish, and am going to try using this light for seedlings. I'm very excited about the prospect. My new aquarium will have LED lighting, I think.

I only had this lamp on my 38 gallon freshwater aquarium for a few months when the bulb overheated, melted the plastic cover and cracked the aquarium's glass canopy. I've had tanks for over 30 years and never saw a lamp do this. The lamp's not cheap, and it cost me another $38 to replace the canopy. Not a happy consumer!

It works as a nice replacement for the everyday florescent light fixture that comes with most aquarium kits.

The T5 lights that come with this unit are great! they really do make my fish and plants pop with color!

My main complaint are the wire legs, they are very flimsy and I wouldn't count on them holding up the fixture. But that is not a problem since I just let it rest on my old canopy top. I might try a glass top later(like the packaging recommend) to get a bit more light, but the canopy works for now.

I can't say a a whole lot about this unit because I've only had it for a couple days, but so far so good.

Overall a great deal for the price, but I wish the unit wasn't so "plasticy"
