cost... but you get what you pay for, and this is a great product.
What irritates me is that the old metal dual fluorescent bulb utility hood - gawd knows how hold this thing is (and I bought this sleek T5 fixture to replace that) fired right up, because of course this light craps out in the evening but my tank is lit until late evening on a cycle. Great - I've gotten maybe 2 years - if that - out of a $70+ fixture (plus the extra bulbs I bought and never even got to use), while my old fluorescent lights that are years old fire up, no problem.
After reading some more - I guess you get what you pay for, so I am going to try an LED light - and hold onto my old fluorescent fixtures too. Maybe I will have an electrician look at this thing some time if I have one around to fix something else. I wouldn't buy another of these, or any Aqueon - heaters, filters, lights - had them all by Aqueon and they all work, but seem to have a short life span. It's not good for the environment - all this disposable stuff, and not good for my fish, if I can't depend on a product, and not good for my wallet, when some old light bought used works better than this pricey disposable.
+ Price for the features/value
+ Slim Design
+ Very Bright
+ Versatile - Can interchange bulbs as needed
+ Wires extend to fit the tank perfectly
+ Works great on a timer
- no negatives to report
_Bottom Line_ Yes, I would recommend this light to a friend. This slim fixture can be moved around to find the best spot for lighting. Most light fixtures/hoods, have one pre-determined position. I cannot comment on how this fixture works for aquariums as I am using it to grow plants inside my 29 gallon tank. The box does state that this light fixture is for use over covered aquariums only and cannot be directly above the water. So if you are replacing a light hood you'll need to look into getting a layer to go between the light and the water. As I said, the bulbs are bright and the plants look great! I would easily buy again.

Don't buy this light fixture. I found it on clearance at a local Petsmart for 45 dollars and I can tell you it's not even worth that. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Brian Galloway
Decent quality fixture, I've had it a few weeks and it's still working, but I'm pretty sure bulb output has dropped off some already. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Andrew C. Box
Put this light on my fish tank, it looked awesome. 2 days later the light went out and would not turn back on. Returned it for a refund. Not happy at all.Published 11 months ago by Amber Crouch
