I picked up this heater for our 10-gallon tank, and after several days of adjusting it and watching our tank thermometer, I'm happy with it. It attaches easily, the indicator light is great, and fully submerging it hasn't caused any problems.

The only downside is that it consistently runs 2-3 degrees low: I have it set to 80, and it keeps the tank at 77-78. That wasn't hard to figure out, though, and it does hold the water at a steady temperature.

Given the horror stories I've read about other heaters, I'll take one that runs low and steady over one with serious problems any day.

Update: A month later, it's still rock solid, responsive to changes in temperature (like when I add water during a water change), and performing well.

After having an Aqueon 100 watt heater for three years, I noticed that the temperature in my fish tank was not coming down from about 80 degrees even when I set the dial on top to 72. I called Aqueon, and told them that I tested the temperature with two different thermometers (one being digital). I also told them that I never took the heater out of the tank, so it never had a chance to get damaged that way. I also have a UPS on my tank/heater, so if there is a power outage, the heater is protected with a surge protector, and stays on for at least an hour with the battery backup. Here is what I just emailed Rob at Aqueon who didn't want my old heater back, and immediately sent me a replacement "Pro" heater at no charge, even for shipping:

"Hi Rob, I just wanted to let you know that I got the replacement heater, and installed it yesterday. I set it about halfway between 76 and 80, so as to try to achieve a 78 temperature in my 26 gal. tank. I may have been off a bit in my setting on the dial on top of the heater, as this AM when the temperature in my house is 72, my tank is now at 79 (within +/- 1°). This is a success to me, as my tank never went below 80 to 82 with the previous heater. I have a full glass top and a full wood cover on my tank, and that seems to keep the heat and condensation inside my tank. But, I'm now convinced that my previous Aqueon heater made of glass eventually had a defective thermostat, so I appreciate your good lifetime warranty service that backs up what Aqueon says on its website: "All Aqueon heaters are guaranteed for life."

Don't know what to say, it's a great heater! It works great and keeps my tank nice and warm.

If your confused on what wattage to get, use this guide:

20 gal - 50 watt
40 gal - 100 watt
50 gal - 150 watt
65 gal - 200 watt
75 gal - 250 watt

This is a rough estimate, it depends on how cold your house is which, obviously, effects how cold your water is. For example for a 55 gallon tank I got a 200 watt heater to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps! :-)

I purchased a Aqueon Pro 200 after reading good reviews about this product. It also looked good and was available on Amazon at half the price of what I have seen in the pet store chains; so I purchased it. I also received my item very quickly (I'm glad the seller was offering free shipping instead of Amazon's "FREE Super Saver Shipping").

Make sure to follow the "Installation & Set-up Guide" in the Instruction Manual before turning the heater on. I have a 29 gallon fresh water tank and I set the temperature to 80 F. My house is kept at 65 - 70 F (outside temperature is 20-40 F). My thermometer strip says 79F and it has been very consistent (I've had it for more than 3 weeks now). One other nice feature is the light that turns red or green depending on whether its heating or if the water has reached the set temperature. It is also aesthetically more pleasing than other heaters I have seen.

Anyway, when I was purchasing this heater, I wasn't sure which wattage of heater to get. I bought the 200W based on the comments I read in the reviews. To help you folks, here are the details from the instruction manual:

Aquarium Size ==> To increase above room temperature (5F: 10F: 15F)

5 Gallon ==> 50 watt : 50 watt : 50 watt
10 Gallon ==> 50 watt : 50 watt : 100 watt
20 Gallon ==> 50 watt : 100 watt: 100 watt
30 Gallon ==> 100 watt: 100 watt: 150 watt
55 Gallon ==> 150 watt: 150 watt: 200 watt
75 Gallon ==> 200 watt: 200 watt: 250 watt
90 Gallon ==> 200 watt: 250 watt: 250 watt

Given this great experience, I also purchased a Aqueon Pro 100 for my 10 gallon tank. This one is a little long for my 10 gallon tank, so I had to place the heater in a horizontal position. It works as good as my 200W one. So far I'm pretty happy with both the purchases.

Very good aquarium heater. Once installed it brought a 55 gallon tank up to temp in a little over 2 hours. Been constant ever since!!

With a sturdy body for feisty fish like silver dollars and a handy indicator light this is a very accurate heater. It keeps my 36 gallon at perfect temp with only 150 watts.

This review is for the;Aqueon 06106 Pro Heaters Submersible Aquarium Heater, 100-Watt

I purchased the 100-watt heater for my 28-gallon aquarium and have been very pleased with it so far. Like the other reviewer I have to set it about three degrees higher on the dial to get the actual temperature I want. The white numbers on the stock picture is deceiving as my heater has black molded numbers which makes it slightly hard to see once the heater is fully submerged under water and if you still need to adust it. At my local store I saw multiple Aqueon Pro Heaters with either white-colored numbers or black numbers so if you order this heater online you could get either version.

My aquarium has a black backround, so the physical appearance of this black heater blends in very well. I had some glass heaters explode on me in the past, so it was refreshing to get an aluminum core heater with no glass parts. The outer surface of the heater is covered in plastic that sort of acts like a heater guard to protect fish & invertebrates (and my hand!) from burning. Nice to know that is has a lifetime warranty too!
