DANCE FUSION AT ITS FINEST,
By PHILIP TARLEY (WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arabesque (Audio CD)
Classic Arabic dance songs mix it up with free jazz, techno, and rap in the Casba. This CD really takes you for a kinetic dance journey -if you play it loud- or a sweet mystical tour if you prefer ambiance down low in the BG. I liked the way the alternating men/women vocals wailed like mystical prayers at a dancer's temple. The beat though sometimes very convoluted, never stops. If you liked Peter Gabriel's Passion, his electronic score for the movie "The Last Temptaion of Christ" you will be exhilirated by ARABESQUE. It's got the same timeless ambiance of haunting Arabic desert music, but with lots of modern dance beats, studio enhancements and eclectic cultural references. I liked this CD so much, I'm ordering a second copy as a thank you gift for a friend.

Incredible Middle Eastern music with modern infusions!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Arabesque (Audio CD)
I found this album while on vacation and bought it right away for fear I would never find this great album again! Luckily for all of you, it is available on many online vendors, like here on Amazon. I highly recommend it! It had me dancing in the store! I am a traditional Middle Eastern dance student, and am always on the look-out for traditional music. Well, this is traditional with a twist! It's got all the instruments you would expect from the traditional music, but borrows from modern house and techno beats and influences to create an amazing sound you won't be able to stop listening to! If you have any interest in ethnic influences in modern beats (think Dead Can Dance, Tea Party), don't pass up this album!

North African Funk,
By Mary Ferguson (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arabesque (Audio CD)
For all those fans of the swirls of North African music, here's something traditional but also brings the balance of driving bass lines. The tenor of the traditional sound is broadened and given a contemporary feel by the pounding rhythm. Great in the car on a roadie with some friends - really transports you in time and space.

the perfect combination,

i do not have the cd in front of me so i won't get into the attributes of each and every track but i can tell you 3 things:1)buy this cd 2)you'll love it 3)i guarantee it (of ocurse, this is not legally binding). i think the secret of this cd's success lise in the perfect mixture of old fashioned oriental tunes and beats together with up-to-date technology and thoughts. i liked the way the tracks took me from the stuffy vibrand inside of a bedouin tent on a cold starry mid-sahara night into the throbbing and sexy lounge of that favorite night club i always want to go back to. great for background listening and great to get yourself, and your guests into the mood for more!

After going to an asian/middle eastern restaurant in London that was playing this cd, I absolutely had to get it! Never having listened to this type of music before, I was addicted. With great beats and an amazing melodic harmony, this cd will please anyone! All the tracks are amazing, but I especially liked #9. I strongly recommend this cd, it is well worth the price!

An Exotic Musical Adventure,
By Len Romano "soulrocket" (Albuquerque, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arabesque (Audio CD)
Let me begin this humble review by letting you know that I think this is one of the most essential (various artist) compilations on the market. Regardless of the musical genre. Every track on this compilation, as you may have guessed, has a strong Middle Eastern/North African groove present. Each track is contemporary in sound and technique, yet extremely traditional in mood and content. There are modern drum machines and funky basslines (not on all tracks) mixed with ancient musical instruments and vocal textures - and the result is absolutely captivating and beautiful. The selection of tracks on offer were compiled by a guy called Francis Peyrat who worked at Momo's, hip and trendy nightclub/restaurant in London - and I can only imagine what a complete and blissful riot it must've been to hang out there. Francis has also compiled a CD called Latinize and one called Africanize. It goes without saying that these too are essential puchases. This CD is of that rare quality where it can be played while one is chillin' out alone, or it is even more dynamic and effective when it is blasted out, bass heavy in a more boisterous setting. The exotic rhythms combined with the fantastic playing all round (especially percussion) are certain to grab your attention from the intro of the first track, and not let up an inch until the very end. Here's an idea. Throw a Middle Eastern party. Invite a bunch of extroverts. Prepare some Falafel, Tabouli, Hummus, Baba Ghanoush and whatever else you desire. Get the booze flowing. This CD is the icing on the cake so play it loud. And most important of all....don't forget to invite me! A most highly recommended CD.

I've listened to Buddha Bar and others but think this is my sound. Great back ground music for a balmy summers night around the pool with bar-b-q steaming with great company and of course good wine.

This compliation of music is a great mix of upbeat tunes. I stumbled across it trying to find the song "Shashkin - (Hefner Remix)" by Omar Faruk Tekbilek and am very pleased with all of the music on it. |
