4.0 out of 5 stars this was a good book., July 30, 2003

This review is from: Arabian Challenge (Thoroughbred Series #22) (Mass Market Paperback)
i have read all the Thoroughbred books published (1-59 + all special editions)and have loved them all. Aribian Challenge was one of my favorites. I really liked how it was written. i didnt use to like Cindy, but this book really opened her up to me. I was sad when they took her out of the series for a while, but i was over joyed when they brought her baq in around # 54. in the book cindy goes the though a hard time. Though she is exstatic about riding champion in the D. World Cup she is nervous about racing against ash. when cindy snuck out and rode champion at night and got caught i was on the edge of my seat. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK!

1.0 out of 5 stars Hardly Worth One Star (contains major spoilers), April 4, 2002
This review is from: Arabian Challenge (Thoroughbred Series #22) (Mass Market Paperback)
I hate to say this about a TB book, but this not only ranks lowest in the TB series, it's probably the worst book I ever read. Cindy is a winning-obsessed whiny brat, Champion is suddenly a perfect mannered gentlman, and Ashleigh doesn't even act like the old Ash. Plus, I can't believe Cindy won the race! I agree w/ Ben's father in what he said in CDA about the Dubai World Cup. Champion won in spite of Cindy, not b/c of her. And since when is the track that hosts the Dubai World Cup (can't quiet remember the name) made of sand? It's supposed to be a lot like the Churchill Downs track, which Champion handled fine.
If you must read this book, buy is used or better yet, get it out of the library.

Okay, I can't say this is the best book. I mean, come on. Cindy beats Ashleigh in some really important race? And it's Cindy's second or third race! Cindy didn't deserve to win that race. No offense to Champion, he's great. But in her first race she's in tears because she lost! Sore loser. But like I said, Champion's great and I like reading about him. So if you like Champion, then you should read this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Better than Wonder's Champion..., May 11, 2001
This review is from: Arabian Challenge (Thoroughbred Series #22) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ugh. Cindy grows tiresome. Why couldn't the author/editor understand this? I think they could've kept the racing books alive had they thrown out Cindy in number 20 and brought in a new character. This book brings a few things to mind, such as the huge misconceptions of the whole thoroughbred industry. A fifteen-year-old jockey with one minor allowance victory under her belt going to Dubai to ride the Triple Crown winner in the richest race in the world? I think not. Fiction or not, it's just stupid. Also, for most people who know anything about racing, the Beyerly operation in Dubai is modelled after the Godolphin operation in real life and they pride themselves on creating a track that is virtually the same as Churchill Downs. It's not sand. Why they think these horses will be running in ankle deep sand I just can't understand. If Champion could win effortlessly at Churchill Downs, he could take the track in Dubai fine. And as for Cindy...easily her worst show ever. Cindy never seems to grow up no matter how many birthdays she accumulates. I love how she was written, however. The writing of Cindy never exceeds my expectations. Her rivalry with Ashleigh and her sudden anger and envy over simple things like who Wonder likes best is just great. Okay written snob, but too bad she was the main character.

It might be nessicarary to keep people reading but it just dosen't happen in the racing world. Also the rival thing - its always someone, Cindy and Ashleigh, Cindy and Sammantha. There are better Thoroughbreds, but it's worth a read.

I sort of liked this book. I was so happy when Ashleigh got mad at cindy when cindy said it was her horse. It's not! GO ASHLEIGH! Sorry. But it was good, sorta. I agree, a unknown rider wins the Dubai? Hmmm... And Cindy's snotty, and Every horse Cindy likes breaks records, and is the best. Well Cin, pick one. They aren't ALL the best. And when Ash was being mean to Cindy? Duh, Cindy deserves it!

I loved this book. It gets the series into more than one aspect of riding. I can feel Christina's pain and happiness. If you like this book also try all the other Touroghbred books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Take it slow!, July 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Arabian Challenge (Thoroughbred Series #22) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book wasn't fair. Wonder's Champion always has to win, win, win. It seems as if Cindy will just die of the loss of losing a race. I liked her better in the books 12 - 14. She was actually not a brat then. #15 is supposedly okay, too, but Glory winning by so many lengths? Give me a break. I'm not saying Karen Bentley's work is the pits, like some other mean people are saying, I'm just saying these books now lack the sparkle that Joanna Campbell put into them. Where are the Townsends? They've been quiet lately. They probably would've wanted Ashleigh up on Wonder's Champion in the Dubai, and maybe Mike and Ashleigh should have put Felipe Aragon on Limitless Time. Where'd Felipe go, any way? Back to the point : Cindy can't have it her way all the time. The jockey who wins Cindy's first race, Sally, tries to be nice to her and give her some helpful hints, but she is so rude and just walks away. And the way she ignored Max made me want to cry. Cindy's a switch-over sort of person. When Glory reached his peak, she loved him and wanted him to win. Same goes for Storm, Champion & Honor. What happened to Glory's offspring, and Wonder and Mr. Wonderful? What happened to Precocious & Fleeting Moment, and where'd the heck did Fleet Goddess go? There's a lot of horses and people that are terribly missed in te Thoroughbred series because of the writer's lousy leave - outs. But back to the thing about the Townsends and the Dubai > The Townsends have a half interest in Wonder and all her offspring, which means that includes Champion. Wouldn't they have objected to Cindy riding Champion in a prestigious horse race? The Townsends liven up the stories. Bring em back. Champion just had to beat Limitless Time, didn't he? And there's one thing in the book > It says Ashleigh or someone patted Limitless' sleek b - l - a - c - k neck. Isn't Limitless Time a bay? I'm ignoring the fact he was asked to run in the Dubai. It would have been nice to see one of Fleet Goddess' offspring win a prestigous horse race, the way she did the Triple Tiara. And don't you think that Wonder's Champion is a silly and daft name? I mean, the 'Champion' part about it. Just because when he was a foal doesn't mean he'd be the best racehorse on earth. It's the same way with Cindy's other horses : "Glory, Storm, Champion, Honor, you're the fastest horse in the world!" Bring back all my favorite horses, please : Ashleigh's Wonder, Mr. Wonderful, Limitless Time, Lucky Chance, Shining, Fleet Street, Glory! And pray to God that the next Thoroughbred book (Without Wonder) will be the take off of the Thoroughbred series all over again! This series is swingin' da bomb! :)
