When I gazed upon the cover of this book, I immediately put on my film-handler's gloves so no fingerprints would contaminate this true work of photographic art! I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with Arabian horses, both full-blooded and partial, and their unique equine essence has been powerfully translated by photographer Johnny Johnston and author Maggie Nicol. The portraits of some of the most honored and esteemed Arabian stallions are breathtaking..they leap out of the pages at you. The more casual pasture and candid shots are pastoral and touching. I especially loved the mare/foal photographs. Anyone who has had the moving experience of helping your Arabian mare care for her colt or filly and watching them grow and prosper into their magnificent adult years cannot help but be thrilled by these representations...they are universally Arabian! Another interesting addition to this work are the descriptions of how Mr. Johnston obtained these incredible pictures. The stories behind the photos are both humerous and helpful. I plan to use some of the tips when I photographic my own special Arabians.

In closing, I must say that even though I have been a collector of books on Arabian horses for 40 years, this book is the most beautiful. It begs to be opened and enjoyed again and again. I plan of purchasing several more for my horsey friends..I know it will be their favorite holiday gift! If you love horses, particularly Arabians, you will treasure this photographic collection for years to come...I can't wait for the NEXT book!

This wonderful, photographic book has captured the spirit and essence of the Arabian horse. Johnny Johnston is one of the foremost equine photographers in the world. M.L. Nicol has put together a delightful and beautiful collage of Johnny's work. A must see and read for the Arabian horse lover!

I bought this book as a gift for someone else, and though I know little about horses, the photography is spectacular. As has been said in earlier reviews, this book brings a whole new appreciation of Arabians, even to an uninitiated person like myself. A definite must-see if you are at all interested in Arabians. By the way, it makes a great gift too :o)

Visually breathtaking book. Johnny Johnston is one of the all time great horse photographers. For those of us who own and love Arabians, most will agree he can capture the true essence of a horse again and again. The cover photograph of the magnificent stallion *Padron is one of my favorite horse photographs.

If you love beauty, and especially appreciate beautiful horses, you MUST have this book!

This purchase was a disappointment. It is not what one would call a true "coffee table" book, judging by the contents, the number of pages, or the over-all quality. Several of the reproductions are grainy or seem to have been included more for their landscape interest than the horses that happen to be in view. It is unpaginated and there are only 75 numbered photos. Anyone who has subscribed to one of the Arabian horse magazines for any length of time in the past has already seen the best of Johnny Johnston's horse portraiture. It took less than 30 minutes to read this thin volume and to look at each picture. There is mention on the last page of a second volume to follow. Too bad they didn't double the size of this one to start with to make it more worthwhile. I'll spend my money on carrots for the horses instead of buying the "next" book.

THIS BOOK HAS BY FAR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PICTURES OF ARABIANS THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN ONE BOOK. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED JOHNNY JOHNSTON'S WORK IN PHOTOGRAPHING THE ARABIAN AND HAVE ARABIAN MAGAZINES DATING BACK TO 1977 THAT ALL HAVE HIS WORK IN THEM. HE TRULY CAPTURES THE "SPIRIT AND BEAUTY" OF THE ARABIAN HORSE IN HIS WORK. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE SECOND BOOK BE A MAJOR TRIBUTE TO KHEMOSABI,IN SOME WAY, AS HE HAS BEEN MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE ARABIAN FOR MANY YEARS AND THE PICTURE OF KHEMOSABI IN THIS BOOK IS BY FAR THE MOST GORGEOUS ONE I HAVE EVER SEEN. KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK TO JOHNNY JOHNSTON AND THE AUTHOR, MAGGIE NICOL AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THE SECOND BOOK.

This book is a feast for the eyes! If you love Arabians, horses, or just great photography, this book is a must-have! This is the greatest Arabian photographer of all time, and this book shows just how much he is capable of. Thank you to Maggie Nicol, Johnny Johnston, and all the people and HORSES that brought this book to life. Exquisite!

A gorgeous book, a visual feast, especially for those who love Arabians. I loved the variety in the photographs--and the prose/poetry accompanying.

And those last two pages of photographs--WOW!

"Arabians" From the Camera of Johnny Johnston is a wonderful book and a must for all animal lovers! This book is also a great learning tool. "Arabians" really helps one understand how truly wonderful and unique the Arabian horse is. It is beautifully arranged and very easy on the eye. The majesty of these fabulous horses comes through these amazing photographs and tugs at your heartstrings.

I was expecting photos of the old greats...Muscat,Bask,Huckleberry Bey etc, also more body shots of the horses. When I saw Padron on the cover I thought "wow, I can finally find a book with some pictures of Padron in it"....not!
It is a really nice book with excellent photography of horses but not the horses I expected.
Also I agree with a previous rating that the book is too thin and could have been of more substance. Not a great tribute to such a great photographer.....too bad.
