Created in February 2005, Djuwel plays pieces from Algiers’ Arabo-Andalusian repertoire, in addition to original compositions, in order to create both lively and contemplative moods. Habib Guerroumi’s melismatic singing is effectively supported by his lute, Christian Vasseur’s guitar, and Jean-Christophe Lannoy’s cello as the fine musicians move back and forth between East and West, tradition and modernity.
