An Arab-American learning experience,
By Kelly May (Detroit, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arabs in America: Building a New Future (Hardcover)
Not having any Arabic descent within my family, reading Michael Suleiman's book and taking a class soley directed on Arab-Americans was an advantageous learning experience. He took the work of many culturally oriented people and blended it in with his own work to describe the operations of Arabic culture. He goes on in great detail to explain what it's like to be an immigrant in America. There are many steps in the adapting process which was clearly defined by him and 21 other scholars. The title, "Building a New Future", is the guideline for new immigrants. I feel as if I am somewhat a part of the Arabic culture because I've learned so much valuable information that many are still not aware of. This book, along with my class, covered many relevant topics associated with Arab-Americans and showed their true experience as immigrants. Although I was never really interested in this culture prior, I am looking to study more on Arab-Americans and also inform others. I recommend this book to anyone who might be interested in learning or furthering their knowledge on this topic.
