4.0 out of 5 stars The kids can't stop using it!!! Yikes!!
The microphone comes with no directions, but we turned on the stereo and found it works great on 99.7 FM. Press "M" to talk, "S" for a beat, "A" for applause. It was clear out to 20 feet, or so. The kids use it to sing, talk, and tell jokes. They take it outside with a boombox and use it in the neighborhood to put on shows. The applause button is hilarious,...

I had to search the internet to figure out how to make this thing work because there are no instructions. After reading the other reviews I wasn't sure if it was worth the effort to test this thing but I did anyway. Here's what I did... I turned the mic on and turned on my daughter's FM radio. Then I held down the button marked "M" (above the on/off on the right). I talked into the microphone while tuning the radio up and down the dial and found a usable frequency at about 99 on the FM dial. It may work at other frequencies, but this is the first one I found. The other 2 buttons also provide sounds: the "A" button (on the left) is applause, the "S" button (middle) provides a sort of hip-hop scratch beat. Let's face it, this is a toy and not some sophisticated piece of PA equipment so it is what it is. Is it worth the price? I don't know... it didn't cost much and I got it to work. My daughter seems to think it's cool, so I guess it is worth it...

I cannot judge this product honestly. Sealed in the fine print of the plastic you are told that your voice will be transmitted over YOUR RADIO on the FM frequency, IF YOU CAN FIND ONE OPEN WITHIN SPECIFIED LIMITATIONS! In the Charleston SC area YOU CANNOT! All available frequencies in my area are in use! I tried on 3 FM radios, no luck. Called Disney about problem and got nothing but a "sorry about that". Anyone need a Hannah Montana Mike cheap?

The beat button is worthless.

Just don't touch the antenna on the bottom (lighted up area), it makes it fuzzy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst of both worlds, October 13, 2007
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

The microphone did not work coming right out of the box. I tried using it on different radios and dozens of frequencies in the ranges specified in the manual. I returned the item. I probably would have thrown it away eventually anyway, since it's made in China and will likely be on a recall list soon. Save your time and money....don't purchase this item.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a toy already! Once setup it worked fine, May 15, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

This toy was extremely frustrating for my kid until I figured out how to tune it.
1) find a dead spot on the FM radio band. I used 105.9FM. You should hear just fuzz (white noise) on your radio.
2) put batteries in the microphone.
3) get a really really tiny flat head screwdriver - like the kind in those eye glass kits they sell at the grocery store.
4) sit right in front of the radio
5) Insert the scredriver into the tiny hole in the microphone and tune the microphone until the radio goes quiet (no fuzz sound).

The hole is located just to the left of the screw that you undid to get at the battery compartment, but it's off center. Inside this hole is a small tuning screw. Slowly, slowly, SLOWLY turn the screw driver until you here a change or interruption in the fuzz sound on the radio speakers. This will indicate you found a compatible frequency. Then even slower - tune back to that "notch" until you hear nothing but silence on the radio. Test it by pressing the applause button or by pressing the mic button and talking.

There are multiple places that will "work" as you tune the little screw.

Once it's working it ain't perfect. I doubt you'd do a serious performance on it, but the kids love it.

It ain't perfect. It's a toy already.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY, March 24, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD The Easter Bunny brought this toy to my two oldest daughters (8 and 5), and we could get it to work with a portable radio if we had the "light up antenna" actually TOUCH the radio antenna. And by "work" I mean that we could hear their voices along with A LOT of static. Certainly DOES NOT have the 15 foot range that the insert states. This toy will very quickly be discarded as I wouldn't subject any other child with the disappointment by giving it away or donating it. Not worth $1, let alone the $10 it costs at Walmart. TERRIBLE TOY. Shame on the company for even suggesting it works and I hope this and other reviews prevent other people from buying it so that the product is a financial loss for them.

Microphone is ok. My daughter has some fun playing with it and likes the applause feature. However, in our area (Wash DC metropolitan area), we can get the microphone to play only on one tiny part of the FM spectrum. Even then it does not come through very well. You may have better luck in another area.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible!, January 11, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
My daughters Aunt gave this to her for Christmas. We could not get the thing to work. You have to get it to tune in with the radio and it was impossible. Maybe if you live somewhere with only a very few radio stations this would be great for you. It was very disappointing!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works Best As A "Pretend" Microphone, December 17, 2007
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Hannah Montana FM Microphone (Toy)
My daughter (and seemingly everybody else's) loves Hannah Montana. She knows most of Montana's songs by heart and sings them constantly. It seemed only fitting that I pick up this wireless FM microphone for her to pretend to be her latest hero. The problem is, however, that the mic's proper operation in my area (southwest Louisiana) is very limited due to the fact that there are a number of radio stations around the frequency that this microphone works at best. My daughter really doesn't care that the mic doesn't work that well. She has plenty of fun just singing into the mic without the radio frequency qued up anyway. Sure, it would be much cheaper to buy a generic, fake microphone, but this one has a picture of Montana on it and when it does work it works pretty well.

With that said, I'd still steer clear of this item if you haven't purchased it yet. I'm not angry that I bought it because it does get quite a bit of use when my daughter pretends to put on a concert. I do wish that it worked better than it does, though. The distance from the radio limits the movement of the child. Also, line-of-sight comes into play so much that a child practically has to stay in one place to hear themselves on the radio. When the person they are trying to emulate is a dancing, roaming-across-the-stage pop star, you definitely need better reception. Hopefully a better mic will be out soon.
