This butter dish easily hold 2 sticks of butter and I like that.
April A. Willis
That way I can cut butter slices off the bottom dish without smearing it all over the inside of the dish.

The dish is large enough to accommodate two sticks of butter and fits perfectly in the door.

We've been buying 1 pound blocks of butter from Sam's and cutting them down to fit in our old 1/4 pound butter dishes. Needed a replacement when our regular sized butter dish was dropped and cracked. Thought this dish would allow us to fit the entire 1 pound block, but it doesn't. You have to trim about 1/2 inch off to make it fit closely. We just decided to cut the blocks in half. Not what we expected, but it is a nice dish . We didn't return the dish, but we're a bit disappointed. Hopefully my pics are viewable above.

UPDATE: see end for more.

This is just a lovely butter dish (same as the one I have from Williams Sonoma from years ago). It's solid, cute, and hugely practical.

Best of all, it holds a lot of butter! Like another reviewer, I too use the one-pound blocks from Sam's Club. My trick is to leave it out on the counter until it softens enough that the top will go on easily, pushing the butter down just enough so that the very stable top can slip on solidly. You'd get the same effect with four regular sticks of butter, pushed together just as though they were in the package they came in. Obviously you can also use just 2 sticks if you prefer. I invert the dish so that the butter is in the deep section and the tray becomes the top. That way softened butter is contained easily. Works beautifully.

When you're making lots of sandwiches in a production line, this is wonderful, because you can pick up a LOT of butter at once with your knife. I use my knife to shave the butter extremely thinly and take two slices to completely cover one side of a slice of bread with butter in only 2 fast motions.

The other thing this is terrific for (apart from just ordinarily keeping your butter, of course!) is to serve butter to accompany steamed, broiled or grilled corn on the cob. Because of its size, this butter dish will serve a whole pound or most of a pound of butter high up enough in the bottom part of it that people can twirl their corn directly on the butter without hitting their fingers. This eliminates messy attempts to spread pats of butter on hot corn with knives, and it keeps the drippings contained, all while letting the smallest amount of butter cover the cob completely.

I bought my first cow butter dish at the Williams Sonoma store. I loved it so much that I wanted to order more for Christmas. Williams Sonoma was sold out and luckily I was able to find more on Amazon. I ended up buying 4 more butter dishes for gifts. It makes a perfect butter dish because it's casual for every day use and the embossed cow is adorable. It's the cutest design I have found so far. I absolutely love it and use it everyday. Great price and good quality.

This is exactly what I wanted. A good glass butter dish that would accommodate these chubby sticks of butter out here in the West. Back East the sticks are longer and skinnier. My old dish would not work when I moved out West. Also, this is a nostalgic item for me as I remember seeing it as a child. It's just cute.

Very cute. I bought it as a replacement to a similar butter dish that recently broke. The broken one had a cow on top that functioned as a handle. This one is cuter, but I miss the handle. This butter dish easily hold 2 sticks of butter and I like that.

It's hard to explain why, but this butter dish always brightens my day. I've had it for about 3 months now. My old butter dish was the usual type with a flat plate and a cover, and always quickly got messy with family use. This one is so much more practical, because the butter stays on the inside of the dish, and the cover stays clean. It is plenty big enough for the amount of butter that we use at any given time (one or two sticks), and the cow is a cheerful touch. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. I am back today to buy one as a gift for my sister.

I have been using Luminarc butter dishes (some with the cow, some plain) for over 35 years and wouldn't consider any others. These used to be in the stores, but now I can only find them online. Started using them because we bought farm-made butter in blocks and the flat dishes for sticks didn't work.

I just purchased my 5th one because I was careless and dropped it on a tile floor. I keep one for cream cheese, like a number of other reviewers, one for butter and one to use while another is being washed. In the heat of the summer, if I forget and leave the butter out too long, I don't have an overflowing mess that you would have with a typical 'flat' butter dish.

I have a number of other Luminarc glass products and have always been impressed with the quality -- much better than some of the other tempered glass products that are being sold today.

Great quality and cute design on the top. My only, but main complaint is that the dish is too short and does not close around the butter. If it gets warm and kind of melted/squished, then it will close! Not sad I bought it, but it isn't really what I wanted. I don't understand why they shorted the dish by half an inch or so to be fully functional.
