The original NBA JAM!!!!!!!, March 19, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Arch Rivals (Video Game)
LJN was a group that eventualy became Midway and ACCLAIM... This was ACCLAIMS first two-on-two basketball game that later evolved into NBA JAM. This game you pick your team (all fictional) and then you play a 2 on 2 game. In NBA jam you can shove your opponent, but in this one you could press the button to hold back your fist when you where defending, then let it go smash them in the face, it is hilarious!!! You just punch the %$#@ out of your opponent to get the ball. Plus if you dunk from back far enough you can smash the back board!!!!
This game is pretty dated today, very slow, and not much more to do then just keep playing the same thing over and over again. But this game was NBA JAM before there was NBA JAM. It is the foundation to the great Jam games that followed.

O.k., October 28, 2002

Arch Rivals is more of a Sports game but anyway, Arch Rivals is a beat em up, dook it out, basketball game where the goal is obviously, score and win the game but as an added bonus, you get to punch out your opponent as he drives to the hoop.
Nothing all that special. It's basically Double Dribble except it's 2 on 2 and the computer is good, really GOOD! Sometimes the computer is too good and it makes this simple game very difficult and when you have an easy game and you make it way too hard, people lose interest and that's what happened here for me atleast.
I wouldn't bother because this game gets real old real quick. There aren't too many really good Sports games on NES but if you ever find this rare title I would check it out instead of this, TECMO Soccer which took characters from River City Ransom and put them on the soccer field. That one was a much better beat em up sports game. If you can find Tecmo Soccer, check it out!
