5.0 out of 5 stars This is a "MUST HAVE" book.
Many people find that the KJV Bible is too hard to understand because the language is considered to be "old fashioned".

Mr Vance has taken all of the words which are considered to be "outdated" and compiled them into a form of encyclopaedia.

This book should be put on your "MUST HAVE" list, if you are a avid reader of the KJV Bible. It...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but not complete
This is a good book for finding the definition of many archaic words in the KJV. I do wonder why the author uses the word 'archaic' on the title, and then proceeds to try and defend why those words aren't archaic at all, though, and how they can be found in modern publications...

Anyway, if you can overlook his arguments for non-archaic-ness in the definition...

This book should be put on your "MUST HAVE" list, if you are a avid reader of the KJV Bible. It will not only enhance your bible study but it will also give you better understanding of the LORD's word.

This book is another great work in defence of the Bible against the attacks from modern defenders of corrupt versions. This book not only defines many archaic words, but also shows some modern secular usage as well as usage of archaic words in corrupt bible versions. This shows how meaningless it is to stab at the Bible by saying that it is archaic. I have also read 2 other of Vance's books. I recommend any of his works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book to further understand Gods Word., November 3, 2003

This is an excellent book for getting more out of God's word than the modern versions around today can give. Example the Thou's and Thee's are singular referring to one person or group. While the Yee's and You's are plural. The modern versions use the word 'you' for both. You lose...

You talk about Archaic Words. Take a look at a few I got out of the NIV which is supposed to me a Modern Version.

Abashed, annotations, cors, dissipation, fellowman, filigree, fomenting, goiim, ignoble, jowls, mainstay, marauders, pinions, porphyry, portent, profligate, qualm, resplendent, revening, squall, and wadi, just to name a few.

Why does the NIV use these Archaic Words? Because of Copyright Laws. New version have to be significantly different from others so a lot of trips to the Thesaurus is needed.

What does this all this lead to? A Bible that gets further and further away from the real Word of God which many believe the closest can be found in English in the King James Version.

Anyway, if you can overlook his arguments for non-archaic-ness in the definition of every word in the book, it's a great resource. I couldn't find every word I wanted to, but then what book could be completely complete, except a dictionary? Another book I find really helpful is, "The Bible Word-Book: A Glossary of Archaic Words and Phrases in the Authorised Version of the Bible and Book of Common Prayer (Cambridge Library Collection - Religion)". This book was written in the 1800s, and contains a LOT of word definitions (even talks about how a/an was used!). It's been republished by Cambridge, and is another great resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, Articulate, and Clear, March 3, 2011

On the day after receiving this book I was able to use it twice. It happened that I ran into the words "trow" and "youward" in my AV reading. Both times I reached for this book and easily found the word, its meaning, its usage in the AV, and how other translations have handled these words. I couldn't be more pleased. It is now on my shelf in easy reach when I do my daily reading of the AV.

The book itself is bound well, opens easily and lies flat for comfortable reading. The print is dark, the paper thick enough so there's no bleedthrough from the next page. The print is also large enough for readers of all ages. In other words, the author/publisher has taken efforts to design the book so that the reader can actually use it with comfort.

I am extremely pleased and recommend it for anyone studying, contemplating, or just perusing the King James Version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful study book, December 24, 2007
This is a wonderful study guide for the Authorized Bible. With more and more Americans turning to lukewarm religious views, which require watered down study books, it is getting hard to find books that are designed to help serious students. This book sticks to facts, which is much different to other Bible dictionaries that are filled with man pleasing assumptions. I was saddened to read the negative reviews. If I could say anything to help those I would do so now, but God blinded their eyes, so I have no power to change that. For those who choose to lead a God Centered life, I highly recommend this book.
