3.0 out of 5 stars Another great true horse story out of Australia., October 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Archer's Adventure [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I like this video because it is an awesome true story of courage and determination. Somewhat similar to Phar Lap, it tells the true story of Archer, an Australian race horse, who is taken over the mountains to Melbourne for the inaugural Melbourne cup and wins! And he does it again two more times. There are a couple of unnecessary bad dream sequences, but overall it is quite well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Following your dream, August 4, 2004
This is a fable about following your dream and chosen path.

The film is based on a young stable lad who rode a racehorse, called Archer, nearly 600 miles across Australia to enter the 1862 Melbourne Cup. On his journey the boy is helped by a spiritual force, which shows itself through signs and fateful coincidences. This force not only guides him to his goal but also sets tests for him along the way, therefore developing his wisdom, intuition and strength of character.

I was enlightened by the fact that some of his tests (or work) en route to his dream were actually more important than realising the dream itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great piece of history, March 8, 2008

Yes, there's still debate over how Archer made his way to the Cup, but as a person who lives in Archer's hometown, this movie is more than a horse adventure. It's a piece of local folklore and to have such wonderful Australian actors (Brett Climo and Nicole Kidman are great) is just a wonderful journey. If you like horses or Australia, you'll enjoy this.
