About the Author
After college William Hovey Smith served in Vietnam before pursuing a profession as an exploration geologist working throughout the United States. A specialist in hunting with muzzle loading guns, Smith has been a regular contributer to American Rifleman, Gun Digest, Guns Illustrated, Blackpowder Hunting, and Muzzle Blasts. He is currently a senior writer for Guns & Gear Magazine.

More About the Author
As a Professional Geologist and an Outdoor Writer, I have had the opportunity to live and hunt over most of North America. I was always interested in outdoor writing and sold my first articles in the 1970s and have continued with newspaper, magazine and book writing every since. I have done beat reporting for regional newspapers, been published in more than 80 different publications and now have produced 13 books and most recently both screen and stage plays.
I am taken by the unusual and try to work what I see as the underserved portions of the market. This was the case with "Practical Bowfishing," "Crossbow Hunting," and my most recent outdoor book "Backyard Deer Hunting: Converting deer to dinner for pennies per pound." I also have written, but unpublished books, on muzzleloading hunting and hunting knives. Examples of my interests in these areas are that I am a Contributing Editor for Gun Digest covering muzzleloading guns and also write fairly commonly for Knife World and the Krause annual knife books. The most recent of these is Knives 2010, the 35 Anniversary Edition; and I will shortly be sending off my contribution to Knives 2011.
One new useful adjunct to book is my blogs which I use to update topics and show color photographs that were too expensive to publish in my books. These can be accessed through my website, www.hoveysmith.com or you can go directly to the blog that I post most often at http//www.hoveysmith.wordpress.com. In any of my publications you are apt to find some hardware-related information, some interesting stories, practical information on game processing and cooking instructions - all told from first-hand experiences.
