5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to Arches NP!
We just spent 3 days at Arches NP and this guide was a big help in deciding which trails to hike. There is a detailed description of each trail, rating as to difficulty, and also what you will see along the way. Yes, some of this information is available online at various websites or with the map that is given to you at the park entrance, however, ALL of the information...

3.0 out of 5 stars helpful but be careful
A helpful book but be careful. Some of the alternate paths are difficult to find; e.g. Delicate Arch and alternate for the fin on the way to Double O. The book would benefit from an inclusion of suggested times for photos for each arch/hike.

Plan on 3 days minimum to get a good view and experience of this park.

There is a detailed description of each trail, rating as to difficulty, and also what you will see along the way. Yes, some of this information is available online at various websites or with the map that is given to you at the park entrance, however, ALL of the information is provided right here in this one book. It isn't a huge book so you can carry it with you on your hikes, also. Plus there are gorgeous pictures of each trail. If you are new to hiking, or new to the desert Southwest USA, get this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best hiking book for Arches National Park!, November 23, 2008

This review is from: Arches National Park Dayhiker's Guide: Utah's Slickrock Country (Paperback)
We used this guide last summer on our trip to Arches. I had checked it out from the library. It was by far the best book for the Park -- the pictures alone are worthy of a "coffee table book." I wanted to purchase it and thought the National Park store would have it for sure, but they didn't. I showed the book to the rangers and they thought it was one of the best books they'd seen on the Park as well and were going to try to get it there as well. Their only concern is that the descriptions of the hikes are so good, and the rangers do NOT allow anyone into the Fiery Furnace anyomore without them as a guide. They often have to pass on certain books because of the elaborate descriptions of that particular hike although all the other hikes are fine. We used this book on all our hikes and were delighted with the information that it provided as well as postcard pictures of the amazing sites. I recommend this book!
