3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult balance, November 10, 2008
By
This review is from: Archi-Neering: Helmut Jahn - Werner Sobek (Paperback)
The authors take the reader on a journey. The road is the difficult but fruitful and essential road of collaboration between architect and engineer. But as the unfortunate concept (and title) of the book "Archi-neering" implie the more experienced and gifted architect takes the lead. And more than once he sacrifices his own technological abilities to the following engineer who much to often gives up his own inventive creativity.
The reader wonders what would (have) be(en) possible with these two clearly gifted personalities if they would (have) really collaborate(d) as two equal individuals in a free dialogue, both fully equipped with their creativity and technological understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Architecture and Engineering a common bond, March 15, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Archi-Neering: Helmut Jahn - Werner Sobek (Paperback)
Archi-neering provides valuable insite into the theory, development and design of Helmut Jahn's projects. Through interviews with Jahn and the engineer who makes his work possible, Werner Sobek, the book highlights the value of architects and engineers working toward a common goal: building a better future. While the professions sometimes experience a bitter rivalry, it is refreshing to see how men such as Jahn and Sobek have learned to work together and produce wonderful projects.
