This is the wonderful cartoon from the early 70's about a teenage witch who lived with her two aunts and cat named Salem. She is friends with Archie & Betty & Veronica & Jughead. 2.0 out of 5 stars Good picture, but ...............
I used watch Sabrina and The Archies back in the 70's like many other kids and eagerly waited for this dvd to arrive so I could enjoy the show again. Well, this purchase is somewhat of a disappointment. The picture is good and clear BUT, the audio is very shrill. It's not distorted, just high pitched and unpleasant to listen to. I tried it both through my stereo...

This is the wonderful cartoon from the early 70's about a teenage witch who lived with her two aunts and cat named Salem. She is friends with Archie & Betty & Veronica & Jughead. They dont know shes a witch though Reggie always suspects something. This DVD includes three complete episodes of Sabrina which contains two short cartoon stories each episode so really you get six cartoon stories about Sabrina! If you loved the sitcom of Sabrina from the 90's you should check out the REAL Sabrina! Too bad some network doesnt rerun these fabulous cartoons!Excellent color & art work too!! Its worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical FUN, March 25, 2006
This review is from: Archie and Friends Present - Sabrina the Teenage Witch (DVD)
I bought this for my niece. I used to watch this on saturday mornings when I was a kid. I had no idea it was on DVD untill I saw it on Amazon. Seeing a couple of episodes brought back a lot of good memories. (I might buy one for myself) It is as much fun to watch as I remember. The colors are brighter than today's cartoons and the animation is MUCH better. My niece really liked it. She used to watch the T.V. show with Melissa Joan Hart (Sadly Not On DVD) And the new cartoon. If you're looking for some 1970's nostalgia check this one out.

I tried it both through my stereo system and plain old tv speakers and the results were the same. I'm surprised no one else mentioned it in their reviews. It must be a result of a sloppy transfer job from tape to digital format. I've rented Archie videos in years past they sounded equal to what I heard from the cartoon on tv back in the 70's. The bad part is I've ordered three other Archie dvd cartoons. I hope they don't have the same problem.

The Eye of the Hipster took a trip down memory lane, with several fun Sabrina cartoons.

You can too, & they are fun.

No trace of audio problems on this DVD.

The Hipster gives it a Thumbs Up!

5.0 out of 5 stars The REAL Sabrina! Now bring us the whole series!, December 16, 2006

While there have been several other completely different series using this character's name in the decades since, when I hear the name "Sabrina", THIS is the show I long to see again.

This DVD contains 3 episodes of the classic Filmation studios cartoon "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" (1970), 1 episode of "U.S. of Archie" (1975), plus the bonus materials feature an episode of "Archie's Funhouse" (1971).

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was originally a supporting character on the highly successful late-60s Archies cartoon. On her own show, the stories feature all of the Archies characters plus Sabrina's magical cat Salem, her mischevious Aunt Hagatha and sometimes even her cousins the Groovie Goolies. The best episode on this disc prominently features the Goolies, so all you Goolies fans (Goolians?) out there who need MORE after the Goolies boxed set should definitely check this one out too!

"U.S. of Archie" was a series conceived to help teach U.S. history to kids. The episode on this disc features the ancestors of the Archies helping Susan B. Anthony organize the first demonstration for women's rights. -- Quite a hot topic back in the bra-burning "I Am Woman" heyday of Women's Lib in 1975.

"Archie's Funhouse" features the Archies cracking some jokes and doing comedy skits.

The bonus materials also feature a quiz on Sabrina, but it was probably put together by somebody over at Archie Comics because all of the questions seem to deal with the comic book Sabrina and have nothing to do with this TV show.

I was really disappointed when the Sabrina series was not included in the recently released "Groovie Goolies" complete series DVD boxed set, because as everyone who watched these shows back when they were originally broadcast knows, Sabrina and the Goolies used to be broadcast back to back in a one-hour show called "Sabrina & the Groovie Goolies". But I was happy to find at least a few brief episodes of Sabrina on DVD here.

It looks like they weren't able to put it out on the same DVD with the Goolies because it seems the Archie Comics people have retained the rights to the Sabrina show, and have decided to let the Nostalgia Ventures people go the route of releasing them piecemeal a few episodes at a time instead of letting Brentwood Home Video give it the excellent full-series release treatment they've recently given to the Goolies and so many other classic Filmation shows. This is REALLY too bad, because Nostalgia Ventures seems to think that their target market is just little kids and is only releasing a couple of episodes of each of the old Archie-related shows at a time. At this rate it's not very likely we'll ever see the whole Sabrina series released anytime soon.

Hey, wake up out there Nostalgia Ventures! It's people like me who originally watched these classics 35 years ago who are just dying to buy them now and we want the WHOLE series, not this "an episode here and an episode there" kind of nonsense.

The cartoons themselves thankfully are not faded, but they are still not as pristinely restored as the wonderful job Brentwood has been doing.

I'm happy that I own this, but I really wish they'd do a proper job and remaster all the episodes and release them together in a nice boxed set. Until then, this is just a tantalizing little taste of a great cartoon for ya!

P.S. For those of you that remember this show and think the Sabrina on the cover doesn't quite look like the Sabrina you remember, don't worry. This IS the right show. But just the people putting this DVD release together were not even on the ball enough to get a pic of the cartoon Sabrina and just used a Sabrina pic from the comic book instead. Sheesh! No respect at all...
