As a long time fan of the Archie gang,it was a treat to see them return to animation. The charactor's are more like the comic book kid's than the 1960's show's.For any die hard fan's of the archie's this video is a must-have.

3.0 out of 5 stars Archie at Halloween
This movie was alright to begin with but the Vampire movie was too long. I got up and left the room after a while. I am an older adult and thougt this might be fun to watch, so maybe if I was a kid I would have liked it better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Archie: The Supernatural Remix, October 28, 2002
By
This review is from: Archie's Weird Mysteries - Archie & The Riverdale Vampires [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Archie and the Riverdale Vampires is composed of 4 episodes from the 40 episode animated series Archie's Weird Mysteries, which first aired on the PAX network between 1999-2000. Now it's syndicated, and can usually be seen on Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings.

As they do from time to time, Archie comics takes their familiar line of characters and remixes them into a new theme or situation. This time they added a pinch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a big dose of the X-Files to the mix, resulting in Archie's Weird Mysteries.

The basic premise of the series goes something like this...Dilton, the resident science geek at Riverdale High conducts an experiment that somehow goes awry. Suddenly Riverdale becomes a magnet for all thing unexplained, magical, or supernatural. Archie decides to record these events for prosperity by creating a column in the school newspaper called....yes, Archie's Weird Mysteries.

So there you have it. The video Archie and the Riverdale Vampires is made up of the episodes "Attack of the Killer Spuds," the first episode in the series, an Invasion of The Body Snatchers-style tale of mutant POTATOES from outer space! The rest of the video features the episodes "Scarlet Night," "I Was a Teenage Vampire," and "Halloween of Horror"...the story of the Vampiric invasion of Riverdale in which Veronica actually becomes a vampire too.

Like all Archie tales, the action and adventure is most lighthearted and simple.. All problems are easily resolved, and everyone lives happily ever after ("....in a little town called Riverdale...", as Archie says at the end of each episode.) The supernatural angle is more involving than many past attempts at Archie animation, but I would still only recommend this to Archie fans, as most people will find it a little too silly to enjoy. Especially the heavy handed "life lesson" morals at the end of each story, which can cause rapid eye-rolls and deeply audible groans.

There are much worse ways to spend a weekend morning, but Archie's Weird Mysteries is definitely NOT for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally an Archie video!, August 31, 2000
This review is from: Archie's Weird Mysteries - Archie & The Riverdale Vampires [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was so excited to find out that there is a new Archie video available. Although I must say I was kinda disappointed that its about ghosts and zombies. I would love to see a video with funny stories about the gang (just like in the comic books). My 4-yr old daughter got so scared of it that she had nightmares after watching it. I don't recommend it to kids 5 and under. Its really nice to see them in animation, I wish there would be more in the future. What can I say? I'm an Archie fan since I can remember. Whatever story they would come up - I'll still collect them all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, but Surprisingly Scary As Well, October 21, 2008
This review is from: Archie's Weird Mysteries - Archie & The Riverdale Vampires [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Undoubtedly, you will probably like this better if you are an Archie fan. This movie is basically 4 25 minute horror episodes that are linked rather well. The 1st is where Jughead wins a monster movie marathon contest. Archie is worried that Jughead is watching too much television and not really living. With some scary irony, Jughead's prize turns out to be the means for turning the whole population of earth into mindless vegetables while potato clones take over the earth. There is some humor in that since Jughead was strange to begin with, the Archie Gang is ready to accept Jughead's potato clone as real. As Reggie says: "Jughead will never be normal." There is a good combination of horror and comedy as Archie realizes that the whole world will be taken over by potatoes if he doesn't do something.

The 2nd episode revolves around a new girl in town. (Scarlet) Betty and Veronica grow angry and jealous as Scarlet makes advances on Archie. But their anger soon gives way to honest fear when they start to find out more and more about this new girl in town.

The 3rd episode revolves around Veronica being turned into a vampire, and Archie, Betty, Reggie, and Jughead put aside their differences for the sake of saving Veronica.

the 3rd episode ends happily, and just when we think all they have to do now is enjoy the Halloween party, the true terror unfolds as the Head Vampire regains his powers. He wants to turn everyone into vampires and make sure daylight never touches the earth again. Gradually, our heroes turn into vampires, and the 2 most opposite characters (the vain Veronica and the eccentric but intelligent Jughead) have to work together.

This horror flick has a lot of well placed laughs, but it is surprisingly scary with more violence than we may expect. (Parents should probably screen it before they give it to young children.) While not my favorite Halloween flick, it is surprisingly well done.
