5.0 out of 5 stars Oasis mailbox post
This is an very beefy, high quality post! The base has the holes pre-drilled and included are the 4 large bolts/nuts plus 8 washers to attach an Oasis mailbox. I used some of my own lock washers too for some extra insurance against them somehow working loose.

The post is hollow and square so I poured the concrete first then pushed it into the hole about 20"...

3.0 out of 5 stars Huge post, nothing to hold it in concrete
I order this post as the companion to the Architectural Mailbox (see my review on that, arrgghh). This post is HUGE, I guess I should have read the specs more closely. I think it will work out (if I keep the mailbox) but I do have some gripes. The thing was not packaged very well, a big heavy thing in an over sized box. I was very surprised it was not damaged. But here's...

5.0 out of 5 stars Oasis mailbox post, January 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an very beefy, high quality post! The base has the holes pre-drilled and included are the 4 large bolts/nuts plus 8 washers to attach an Oasis mailbox. I used some of my own lock washers too for some extra insurance against them somehow working loose.

The post is hollow and square so I poured the concrete first then pushed it into the hole about 20" so that concrete would be forced up into it and put the mailbox at the right height when mounted. That worked very well and I did not have to brace it while the concrete set.

One minor negative was the packaging for shipment. While the flat plate at the top was protected in heavy cardboard and the post was inside a plastic bag, there was no packing materiel in the box so the post came through it at both ends (without being damaged though).

A possible negative is the design of using bolts to attach post and mailbox which leaves either the bolt heads or nuts exposed (depending on which way you connect it). I am paranoid enough to wonder if someone could easily unbolt the mailbox and walk off with it. I found that with access to only one end the bolt would spin rather than unthread after the lock washer lost its grip. Good news, but a prepared thief could handle that too if willing to make the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oasis Mailbox Post - "garbage" sold by Home Depot, June 10, 2008
This review is from: Architectural Mailboxes Oasis In-ground Posts (Lawn & Patio)
If you buy an Architectural Mailboxes post, then buy only the 4 inch square post which has the heavy steel plate mounting plate welded to the post. Amazon sells it for a great price.

The Architectural Mailboxes post sold by Home Depot is a piece of garbage. It is 3 inches round with a light weight mounting plate that attaches to the post with 4 bolts. When I bought it from Home Depot last weekend, I did not realize that this was a sub-standard product sold only to Home Depot. (I know, I know...I should have my head examined for going to Home Depot)

The standard Architectural Mailboxes post is 4 inches square with a heavy steel mounting plate that is welded to the post. The round post is not even shown on the Architectural Mailboxes website.

I spent several hours and 160 pounds of concrete and rebar installing the Home Depot post, only to find that when you pull the handle to open the mailbox, the mailbox vibrates back and forth like a tuning fork, although the post itself is rigid. It's the lightweight mounting plate that is at fault...very poorly designed.

Next weekend, I'll be digging out this post and replacing it with the solid one sold by Amazon. I called Architectural Mailboxes only to find that they are "redesigning" the Home Depot post...basically, if you are not satisfied, too bad. Architectural Mailboxes is not helping their brand by selling a sub-standard product through Home Depot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty post., February 23, 2006

Post is nice and long, and heavy. Appears well made. No issues installing it (you need about 80 lbs of concret on hand!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Post, November 28, 2007

Bought this with the mailbox. UPS shredded the cardboard box during delivery, but the post was just fine. Easy to install (with lots of concrete as an earlier person noted) & looks good with the mailbox. Recommended.

This was exactly what it was supposed to be. I already had the mailbox that went with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very sturdy post..., March 1, 2011

A must for proper mounting of the Oasis, Jr. mailbox. We found that the best way to utilize this post was to insert a 4"x4" section inside the sleeve of the post with approximately 16" of the wood extending beyond the end of the post. This allowed for a much more secure mounting of the in-ground post. We mounted the mailbox onto the post prior to securing in the ground. We felt that this allowed for the proper postal height regulations and for alignment of the mailbox and post.

3.0 out of 5 stars Huge post, nothing to hold it in concrete, January 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
But here's the kicker. If this is supposed to be a secure post / mailbox, how is that it is supposed to stay attached to the concrete. There are no holes in the sides of the post to ensure the concrete locks into the post. Better yet, why didn't they include a bolt I could put into each of the 4 sides to really anchor this thing in concrete? I definitely will need help to wrestle thing

Final update: Post and mailbox are in, had my handyman add a concrete post anchor (pre-made concrete and metal bracket pre-attached) onto this post with a big bolt through the post and then coated the bolted area in rustoleum.

This post is a must for installing the Oasis mail box. Be sure to provide a strong concrete base.

5.0 out of 5 stars Post from 'hell', March 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've installed many of these architectual mailboxes but this is the first I've installed on a post. I can say it is one heavy duty post. Designed to hold 1 box but with the optional mounting plate will easily support 2 boxes. I thought I may be able to make my own post and save some money. Don't do it!!! This is well worth the money. You won't be disappointed.

Box was beat to h#@^ when it arrived. Lost the bolt pack. After one call to Amazon they shipped another complete post...even paid for return shipping of first post.

Buy it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I ordered, January 4, 2011

Came quickly, but a little bent on the end. The packaging was taped together, probably from the post office. I wasn't disappointed as this is a very heavy and substantial post. It would have taken a significant amount of packaging to keep it from coming out of the box. The part that was slightly bent goes into the ground anyway and won't be seen. It didn't subtract from the usefullness of the item.
