A good insight into the diffreent types of materials available for the construction of several types of architectural models. I particularly liked the way in which the book is divided and the several practical hints wihch the author gives to the beginner -- a good book.

I am glad I found this book,

Even though this is meant for graduate level and professionals, I ordered this book for our jr. high-aged homeschooled children, who are very interested in architecture and building models of their plans. I am happy with the way this book presents things simply and clearly, but does not restrict itself to only foam core board constructions. It introduces other ideas and techniques for models that my kids are excited to try. This book fulfills my wish to find a resource that will be of use to them for years and years...no matter how far they go into the field of architecture and model building.

The pictures are good, but I would have liked more step by step instructions. It did alot of saying what to do, but not as much how to do it as I would have liked.

I tried to get this book for years, as it has been out of print for quite some time. I finally got the new edition, and I was a bit disappointed that I didn't really learn anything new. I think beginners might get something from this, but the instructions may not be clear enough for a novice. It tries to cover everything, but really just scratches the surface of various techniques. I know this book is translated from German that might explain the way it is written.

This book is an OK start if you have no Idea of how to create a model. At this price there should have been many step by step buldups not just pictures of finished models. The constant information about what the base of the model was made of was pointless. There are some very unproffesional suggestions on how to create things, the use of a nail to scripe window lines and the use of wood when there are so many superior products on the market are just a couple of the references that come to mind.

The book is not a "How to make architectural models". The idea of this books is to create and give more than one solution to problems you'll face making architectural models. The book explains the different types of models you can use, shows materiales used in different types of models and the pros and cons of each one. Gives great solutions when working with site and terrain, different solutions on creating a terrain model, different types of vegetation, whether you are working conceptual or more realistic models, there is a solution to each one, and different water recreation materials. The whole point of the book is read it and create yourself a solution to the problem, not a step by step guide. My personal opinion is you would like to have this book as a reference to model making, since each model is different, there is no formula to each problem, this book helps you create your own model making technique. Recommended.
