This review is from: Architecture and Sensuality: Andrew Bromberg of Aedas (Hardcover)
Length:: 0:18 Mins
The description on the book jacket describes the book rather accurately and I'll quote it here:
The process of design is varied and ephemeral. Each project has its own formula and inspiration. This book has been divided into three chapters which focus on three approaches to design.
"Challenging Conventions" represents designs which push the limits, not restricted by conventions, allowing the optimal and most meaningful designs to be achieved.
"Civic Approach" represents architecture which goes beyond archtypes, which are deemed civic, by instituting an obligation that every project try to improve and benefit the world we live in.
"Contextualism" represents projects which respond to their settings deliberately and with the motivation of improving the value of the project and the quality of its surroundings.
Beyond these three approaches, the designer also believes that architecture should be experienced, perceived and discovered. In this, ambiguity is healthy in achieving rich, ephemeral designs which offer a multitude of readings and interpretations.
Design should strive for "beauty" and "sensuality" even if it is subjective and undefined.
Here's a list of the architecture featured:
* West Kowloon Cultural District (Hong Kong)
* Dancing Tower (Abu Dhabi)
* Ocean Heights One (Dhabi)
* Empire Tower (Abu Dhabi)
