Book Description

May 1, 2004
Here is THE way to see Los Angeles's rich architectural heritage! L.A. is a "driving" city, best seen from the car. Tour guide, author, and architectural historian Laura Massino Smith will take you on an unforgettable ride to uncover the city's exciting cultural past. You can efficiently visit dozens of L.A.'s architectural marvels in the shortest amount of time. Maps and explicit driving directions help you navigate roads, while detailed descriptions of tour sites provide each building's history. Photographs are included to help you identify more than 90 sites. On this tour you'll encounter some of the oldest and some of the newest architecture in the city's most architecturally diverse area. Styles ranging from Victorian, Renaissance Revival, and European Beaux-Arts to Art Deco and Post-modern are represented in Downtown. Visit the new Walt Disney Concert Hall and the new cathedral, then travel into Little Tokyo and Chinatown, the Historic Theater District, and the first suburb of Los Angeles featuring magnificent Victorian homes from the 1880s. History buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and L.A. visitors will love these unique and fascinating tours, which offer the best way to see diverse architecture in L.A.

3.0 out of 5 stars Los Angeles tour ' architectural guide, March 3, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Architecture Tours L.A. Guidebook: Downtown (Paperback)
This book, coming in a series that covers three different areas, is very helpful for those interested in architecture. The only drawback I feel is that the photography could be better; especially the cover. But the driving directions are clear and coming from a third party through Amazon was quick and very inexpensive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful!, June 28, 2008
By
This review is from: Architecture Tours L.A. Guidebook: Downtown (Paperback)
If you're planning a trip to L.A., happened to like architecture from the 1920's and 1930's and need someone to help you get oriented and tell how to get there, you must buy this book and read it before your vacation!
I knew there were very interesting buoldings but, as I'm not used to cities like L.A., I didn't want to find myself driving cluelessly in search for an abandoned buildings. This book proved very useful. I recomment to buy the others too.
