Editorial Reviews

The second installment in an ongoing series. From The Archives is a collection of songs spanning the duo's 25 year recording career including rarities, remixes and previously unreleased recordings from FSOL's archives. Future Sound of London are one of the most respected international experimental ambient outfits, incorporating elements of many styles into their musical stew: Techno, Classical, Jazz, Hip Hop, Electro, Industrial and Dub are just a few of the aural touchstones that are often felt if not heard in their expansive, sample-heavy tracks. 21 tracks including 'Brujo', 'Fractional Difference', 'Distant Nebulus' and many more. Jumpin' Pumpin'. 2007.

This review is from: From the Archives 2 (Audio CD)
this one has a nice dark vibe. some jazz elements and some trip hop kinda beats almost like isdn. but not quite as soft and quiet. the jazz drumming in "night lapsed" just sounds great. the beat in "wanting" almost sounds like a heavy rap beat or a slower hip hoppy crystal method beat. and the song "mumble" is something i can't even describe. i laugh to myself while hearing this song because it's like being warped into a different dimension. i will say that the best songs on the 5 archive releases are pretty much spread across all 5 cds. you could make 1 really really good full cd out of all 5 archive releases. anyway this one is pretty good. but there are good songs (and some filler) across all 5 of these releases... thats exactly why they're called "from the archives" and yes you should already be a future sound fan to get into them. or maybe not. i would not start here. but hey.. from what i've seen people either like fsol or they dont. also archive #5 is good
