Great Player, But Bad Batteries!!!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Archos 500512 Video AV120 with Digital Video Recorder 100 Module (Electronics)
Well, I bought a AV120, and I have filled half of it already. It has great tech. Videos & photos can be seen clearly in color, and the screen isn't that small. All the description Amazon fives explain what it does clear enough, but the only problem it has are the batteries. In a way, it'd be better to have a discman or cd player, for you can change when they expire, but with the Jukeboxes, you have to charge them. On the manual, it says you have to do it for 3hr, but it doesn't explain or tell how much they will last. I charged it for 2hr, and that was how long it lasted, but what if you go on an 8hr trip, and there is nowhere to charge the batteries? Try changing the batteries? that's a good idea, but you have to take the screws, and that ain't as easy. But besides this little defect, it id great. If you'll use it for short trips, it's a great aid to keep you entertained

Watching my money go down the drain!!!,
By Generous Mom (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews

This is the second one of these I purchased for my son. The first one was the AV120 - this one is the AV 140. The first one accidentally dropped on the carpet and the plazma in the screen distorted all images. It is extremely sensitive and for the price you would think that it would be able to withstand a little more shock. The second one I purchased was an AV140 seemed to fair slightly better. Although, after about a month (without being dropped) the screen plazma started to bleed into the screen. This has not been a product to rave about.
The software that came with it is the second part of the nightmare. It releases enough spyware on your computer to cause major problems. My son is very disappointed, I'm extremely pissed.

JUNK!,

This review is for the Archos Jukebox 10 GB MP3 Player which seems to have been discontined, and I am posting this only to warn others like me who look at those oh-so-futuristic images of the product and then kiss their money goodbye!
The short story: The Archos Jukebox 10 is a mediocre, grossly overpriced mp3 player whose manufacturers had the good sense to hire a brilliant photographer. The not-so-short story: 1) It only looks futuristic on a web page...just hold one in your hands to see that up close, it looks like one of those clunky east european electronic devices with awkward panels of buttons that move (even when u r not operating them!) like the loose teeth of a kid! 2) At just casual contact with another electronic device (in my back pack), its paint peeled off in a large swathe...flimsy painting job. Underneath was disturbingly cheap plastic. 3) And not just the outside...inside is an even more pathetic story. Although I have handled it with kidgloves, the device throws up the most crazy glitches for no reason whatsoever. In the middle of playback, it skips tracks and sometimes just hangs (like a PC) for no obvious reason. 4) Unreliable OS. Don't even depend on its recording capability. I once recorded an interview with it (so I could transfer the mp3 file to a webpage) and within 5 mins in to the interview it just spluttered...and shut down. When I rebooted, the file was just not there! Yes, I had charged the battery to full before the interview began. So if you are recording something critical an analog taperecorder is cutting-edge compared with the Archos. 5) To be fair, it has its uses : as an mp3 player (even if a mediocre one) and as a spare hard disk. All said, the Archos is not even worth the time I spend writing this unfavorable review, but if it will help even one reader out there, I would think it was worth my time. |
