I have had this tablet for a little over a week now so here are

The pros:
-Cool widgets
-More customizing features than the ipads
-unlocked 3g (if you buy the 3g stick you can choose the company you want)
-has micro sd, usb, and hdmi (ipads do not)
-can sync with other android devices
-great speaker sound
-very handy kickstand
-half the cost of an ipad

The cons:
-first time charging issue (kept having the disconnet and reconnect cord) but was only the first time
-first day the gravity sensor was a little slow but after the first day no other issues
-fingerprints show really bad but only when the screen is off

I showed it to my mom and she wants me to order her one too. Some say its not as awesome as an ipad but when you add in all the extra ports and the fact that it's half the cost and has wifi and unlocked 3g capability with 3g stick, it's a nice alternative to overpaying for a brand name.

I just got my Archos 80 G9 Turbo tablet yesterday, and I'm loving it. The video looks very great and the games play very well on it. Music quality is very good also. The only problem I experienced so far is that I think it froze up on me last night. The screen went black, but the green light was on indicating it was on so I plugged it in for a while this morning and did a hard reset (holding power button for 10 seconds) and turned it back on, and it worked great. Don't let that affect you from getting this tablet though, because it really is an amazing tablet and hasn't given me any other problems. If you want a cheaper alternative from the iPad I would highly suggest it. I've played with my dad's iPad, and I much prefer this size for playing games and listening to music. The web browsing is great and amazingly fast as well. Hope this helps!

I tired the IPAD2, Samsung Galaxy 10.1, HTC FLyer and none of them compared to this one. I download a ton of AVI & MKV files and everyone of the so called "best in class" tablets had issues playing these files. Either they were choppy or had a ton of artifacts. It was extrememly frustrating. As always Archos came through and it plays all of those files perfectly. To me this is the best tablet out there. It's extremely fast, has good battery life (approx 8-10 hrs) & can connect to my email and home network files easily. I don't really plan on using the camera and maybe someday I'll use the GPS, but this thing is perfect for my needs. The only issue I have with it is the case. It has a lot of sharp edges and the screen swirl is still there. I checked with Archos and apparently there is no fix for this issue on the 80 G9. I'm willing to look past it to for everything else it kicks a@@ at.

Biggest issue is you do NOT get what is advertised. It is an Archo 80 Turbo with 16GB, but it will never be 1.5GHz as the 16GB only ships in the US with the older OMAP 4430 1.2GHz. I ordered and returned the firt 3 units received. I finally gave up and just kept the 4th unit. I confirmed this with Archos directly and you can verify this information on Archos web site. In the US only the 8GB 80, the 8GB 101 and 250 101 are available with the OMAP 4460 and 1MB RAM AND you MUST order these directly from Archos.
Another downside is the lack of support for the SD card. I purchased some aviation software and planned to store the charts and data on the SD card. Archos only supports the SD card for media accessed by their media players. You can not store books, maps, download, etc... and expect apps purchased from the market to access the information.

I bought my first Archos G9 80 from Staples a year ago, back in June 2012. It was advertised as a 4gig RAM but was actually 8gigs. It was on sale for $125 and since all I wanted was an eReader... it was a great price and if you've never had a tablet, they are MUCH more versatile than a mere eReader... and the Archos had features my sister complains her Kindle does not: like SD card support. Also, it's not a tablet tied to any store like Amazon or B&N. They run their own versions of Android designed to funnel business to them... and limiting functionality. This is why I'd never buy one of those tablets.

I recently dropped my Archos and with a repair cost 2x the original price I looked for a new one and was happy to find the G9 Turbo 16gig for $139. Archos seems to make.. or has made, several versions of this Turbo tablet... mine was a 1.2ghz processor with 512megs of operating memory. This ad says one gig. There's also the newer 1.5ghz processors.

But in trying to update it to the newest version of Android... I found that the newest version Archos offered was a year old. I had problems with the update and the tablet froze on shutdown for 30 minutes. I did get it to shut down and the update to Android 4 was successful. But that version of Android is already a year old and researching this on the web it doesn't look as if Archos plans to offer any more updates past this. This is outrageous and if Archos considers this tablet so obsolete it's not worth maintaining, then even if functional, this makes the G9s rather obsolete for average users as well. Knowing this I certainly would NEVER pay $200 for this unit... especially since another vendor just sold one to me for $139.

For more advanced users, there are other ways to bypass Archos and manually update to the newest versions of Android... but I'm still investigating how it's done.
