Great for on the go recording and playback.,

You can't playback and record at the same time with this. It is great for travel. But it is best for hooking up a super small video camera (like the spy or nanny cams) and then you have a comcorder. I did this with my Archos PMA430 and it worked great. This makes it a small camcorder then my "real" camcorder. People I have talked to use it for recording biking or day trips to say Disney land. Nice because you can mount the camera in say your hat and then forget about it. Easier then holding a camcorder all day.
BTW, this is just one of the many reasons I love my Archos PMA430.

Must have for travel,

Works great with the AV504. don't use the adapter thingy, plug the wire into the headphone jack and it'll output to a tv just fine. It will not record though; for that you'll need the dvr travel adapter or the dvr base. If you have the need to go both ways with it; skip this and buy the dvr travel adapter; it comes with this same cable and can record from analog devices. If you need to record from svideo or composite that requires the dvr base station.

Works for AV500,

It is unclear from the Archos Online Store that this AV Travel Cable is the kit needed for the AV500. Archos has it listed (p/n 500671) for the AV400, PMA400, AV700, and AV700E, but there is no p/n for the AV500 kit.
I got it (from Amazon) for my AV500 anyway (figured for <$30, I'll try it), and so far it works fine for analog video recording. I have only been able to try the video in and video out (not the audio channels), but they work as needed - I'll post an update when I know about the audio. Best part of all of this is that now I can record analog video without needing the AC adapter plugged in. Not sure how this will deplete the battery, either; I would imagine battery time is reduced. Tried getting a straight answer from Archos' "pre-sales technical support" before I bought anything, though. Buyer beware: Their knowledge of their products seems very spotty, but they had plenty of negative attitude towards my questions. No one at Archos (sales or support) had the p/n for the kit that will work with the AV500, either, which I found weird since they offer it for sale on the site. I actually based my purchase of this kit on feedback from Amazon, which obviously was the right choice.
