Snap in the 605 and Go
Once the 605 Wi-Fi is snapped in the GPS In-Car Holder, a GPS icon will appear on the home screen allowing you to start navigating. The GPS car holder has an integrated GPS receiver to ensure fast geo-localization. Select your address and follow the instructions to arrive quickly to your destination.

Searching an address is simple: the assistant automatically auto searches for the location against the first letter entered of your destination, defined automatically from the database integrated into the GPS software.

Getting to your destination is easy with advanced signpost warnings and lane assistance options, which suggests the best choice of lane based on upcoming turns. When traveling through tunnels, your Archos GPS will simulate your direction and stay with you through exiting the tunnel.

Points of interest are pre-installed, offering all the information you need when travelling to your destination. Speed limits are displayed on the map on your GPS with advanced warnings to ensure your safety.

The impressive 4.3-inch high-resolution touchscreen of the Archos 605 Wi-Fi, together with the built-in amplified speaker, makes the product easy and intuitive. A built-in audio line out also is available, which will connect to an FM transmitter, allowing you to broadcast the sound through the speaker of your car radio.

The GPS receiver is equipped with a TMC receiver, allowing you to receive free traffic information. If you'd like more detailed information, a subscription service is available with our French, German, English, and American partners.

For those countries where legislation authorizes and where available, registered customers can download fixed speed cams information. The subscription is free of charge for the first year. Customers also will be able to subscribe to an optional premium version offering mobile speed cams, danger zone, and a host of other features.

2.0 out of 5 stars No way, Jose!, August 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Archos GPS In-Car Holder for 605 Wi-Fi (Holder Only) (Electronics)
Archos 605 WiFi itself is a good product, but don't expect to get a good GPS out of this In-Car Holder! I've tested quite a number of different GPS models, and want to warn you - this Archos GPS, well put it simply, sucks, and here is why:
- Can not play music while in GPS mode (which kills the whole purpose of adding GPS to a PMP player);
- Inaccurate road instructions;
- Minimal GPS functionality;
- Awkward unit-to-holder connections
- Sound from an internal speaker keeps coming out even when connected to audio output line;
- Not very user friendly GPS software;
- Need more? Get it - I am sure you will find some more ... :(

1.0 out of 5 stars Invalid Map Code, January 12, 2009

This review is from: Archos GPS In-Car Holder for 605 Wi-Fi (Holder Only) (Electronics)
This product does not work out of the box due to an invalid map code supplied with the unit. Repeated emails to Support have gone unanswered. This is a terrible product and the total lack of support is indicative of a company that has no respect for it's customers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor route calculation, September 1, 2008
This review is from: Archos GPS In-Car Holder for 605 Wi-Fi (Holder Only) (Electronics)
Starting with the positives:

1. Nice display on 605 wifi
2. Holder works well

Negatives (*and these may possibly all be resolved with software updates):

1. Poor route calculation. Some suggested turns make no sense (e.g., turning off a street, adding distance on a different street, only to come back to the original street)
2. Takes a long time to launch GPS program
3. Difficult to navigate the menus
4. When using POI's (points of interest), cannot check the location of POI's with the same name before calculating a route (e.g., multiple Home Depot locations -- Which town is being targeted for the one that is selected?)
5. Cannot see the distance to a POI before calculating a route
6. Difficult to edit a via

Review from Wired.com: Archos GPS Add-On Lags Painfully Behind the Pack
Read the full Archos 605 Wi-Fi GPS Car Holder review at dpreview.com
The Archos 605 WiFi is a damn fine portable media player. (It received the coveted Best of Test award last year.) Now it’s slightly mo’ better due to this new GPS accessory, which adds full-bore street navigation that's on par with a Garmin or TomTom system. Well, a low-end Garmin or TomTom from a few years ago, anyway: This lackluster accessory does not have many of the bells and whistles of modern nav systems, and the one it does have--real-time traffic updates--works only in Europe.
