4.0 out of 5 stars DVR Travel Adapter
I have the DVR addition for the 504 and enjoyed it so much I thought it would be nice to beable to play my movies on any tv, so I got the dvr travel adaptor. Well to my suprise you can not play from your archos to any tv with this just record. So if you want to play from your archos you will need the DVR not the Travel DVR Adaptor.

I was a little disappointed with this accessory, because although it does what it says it does, it doesnt actually do everything right out of the box.

Yes, you can use itto charge your Archos, but you have to buy the power adapter separately. Yes, you can use it to store pictures from a digital camera, but the input wire provided is a VIDEO input (the kind with thre wires - two audio and one video) so... you can plug it into a dvd or vcr or even a cam-coreder, but not a digital camera.

I thought about using this on vacation. I could download pictures from my little digital camera whenever the card filled up, and keep my archos charged! Great idea, if I fork out $ for 2 more wires. I don't even know what kind of wire would even work for a digital camera. I assume its something I need to get from Archos since I have never seen a wire from camera to mini plug like this. For what it actually can do out of the box, the dvr station which I already had does too, and it comes with the necessary wires.

So... in conclusion, its a handy accessory, but it's not a complete package. As is I havent used it once since I got it because I dont have the wires I need, and the dvr station is all I really needed. Since the DVR station isn't really THAT big, I could probably use that on vacation too... but since I already bought the travel adapter, I probably will end up getting whatever other wires I need. I LOVE my Archos, and thats the only reason I have ended up spending so much money on all the add-ons. It is the only product I've seen that actually IS worth it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!!!!, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Archos DVR Travel Adapter (Electronics)
I purchased the travel adapter to use with a previously purchased bullet camera (it's a little better than the Archos helmet cam).
The adapter attaches pretty securely to the bottom of the Archos with a hook that latches into it.
The left side of the adapter has a 3.5mm audio video input and comes with the appropriate cable for connecting to the adapter. The supplied cable has a 3.5mm A/V jack on one end and 3 rca's (left/right audio and the third is video)on the other end. Next to the 3.5mm A/V input is some other type of connector for A/V input that none of the Archos manuals have any details about. I personally have never seen this other type of A/V connector. None the less, the adapter comes with the appropriate cable to connect to just about any device.
The right side of the adapter has a DC jack for a charger which, sadly, does not come with this particular adapter. The DC charging transformer that comes with the Archos docking adapter works just fine with the DVR adapter.
I bought the Archos docking adapter in addition to the dvr adapter, because of the usb A input. I can connect my usb SD card reader to the usb A input of the Docking adapter and use my Archos 404 as a 30 gig photobank.
Today I did some testing for using the Archos 404 and the DVR adapter as a helmet cam video recorder. I taped the helmet cam to the step board on my truck and did some recording while driving around town. The video quality is pretty good and 8 minutes of video only used up 104MB of memory.
All-in-all, I am impressed. It is just what I thought it would be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the DVR Unit almost twice its price, November 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Archos DVR Travel Adapter (Electronics)
I bought the DVR station before i bought the DVR Travel Adapter, and let me tell you, if you actually plan on taking your archos with you to play movies somewhere, or record stuff while your on the road, this unit is far superior over the DVR Station. The only downside to the DVR travel Adapter is that they don't actually give you a plug with it, which to me seems really strange, or actually more of their way of making you get the DVR station, which actually does come with a plug. In all reality though if you actually can find a plug that works from somewhere else, you'll do just fine. The quality of the video on my 604 comes out great using it, and i can create a timer to record with teh archos. If you ask me archos is one of the finest, and most intuitive players made, the only problem being that their marketing ploy of trying to make you get two to five additional things to make it do one thing you want it to do is very sneaky. If they just included some of these things from the get-go, and stopped using europe as an excuse for why they sell their units the way they do, they could be as big if not bigger than even the best seller out there. I understand optioning up, but really, an electric plug costs the manufacturer no more than 2 or three bucks. They could just add it into the price. I am just glad I went with the 604 as they included so many things on it that their later counterparts didn't get. I always say read up before you buy, and this product line is no exception.

This is a great product for traveling and basically supports the connection of various vendors when connecting portable devices to the archos, on the downside, its a little expensive and you would need more cables to connect certain devices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Archos DVR Travel Adaptor, January 26, 2008
This review is from: Archos DVR Travel Adapter (Electronics)
Having purchased the above I was slightly disappointed with what it said on the box (and with yet again with more wires to my collection). After trying several different digital cameras (Sanyo C5 and Sony cybershot) this devise will work with the cybershot and not the Sanyo C5. I yet to see how it will work with my other camers and VCR - I think it will with the appropriate wires, and various connections and a bit of patience. I was looking for something to put my old analogue videos onto my computer and I think this may just be the thing (first put the videos on my archos and then load them on my computer) instead of buying another device for that purpose. As with most things one has to make several attempts before one finds the appropriate device that works for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent slimline addon, January 25, 2007

This was the first adapter I purchased after taking the huge dvr station with me on a couple trips. If your thinking about buying the Helmet camera; it comes with this exact base. (so now I have two).

This item easily connects to the bottom of the Archos. We use it to plug the Archos into a cigarette lighter adapter while traveling in the car.

1.0 out of 5 stars not as described......, August 1, 2009
This review is from: Archos DVR Travel Adapter (Electronics)
When I received the unit I was very excited to put it to use. I was a bit concerned when I opened the package and the unit wasn't in an Arcos labled package. It was in a small zip-lock type bag that came along with the necessary cable. I went back online to look at the picture shown and what I received was half the sizeof what is shown online and lacked labels for the power and video input/outputs. After inspecting the unit, I noticed that the locking mechanism was loose and bent. Although it works, I do get some "video break-up" lines every now and then. Needless to say I'm a little upset that I've received it in this manner. When I ordered the unit, I had just left for a couple of months. So this has been sitting around for a while before I had gotten time to look at it. I'm hoping that 2 months later that NewMp3Technology will be willing to replace the unit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Travel adaptor?, January 15, 2009

I bought the travel adaptor for the 404's. It does charge the unit very well if you have the DVR which comes with the AC adaptor. I have had no success with recording directly from a regular TV, how many hotel rooms have a VCR or DVD player? It looks like the travel adaptor has to be jacked into a player with a video out. I have been able to record off a plasma screen TV only because it does have a video out. It is useless for play back on the TV. and in truth you do not NEED the travel adaptor to play back. If you want to play back just get the replacement cable/jack, jack into the head phone out on the 404, jack into the the video and audio in on your TV/VCR... hit the LCD/TV button on the side of the 404 and watch your video. All and all I think this is a waste of money, the DVR station does work and is pretty small, comes with the AC adaptor, cables and works as advertised.
