I want an MP3 Mac-compatible player that is an alternative to the iPod. I am looking for players that use one standard mini-USB charging cable and that are simple.

I purchased my Archos Vision through Amazon. It's a very pleasant mp3 player for those who want simplicity. These people include the elderly or visually needy. The user manual is brief and easy to learn.

There are 5 buttons on the face and thankfully none on the sides. The large screen is bright and easy to read, and is not usually needed once the controls are learned. The lack of user settings is a plus for me, since there are fewer variables to adjust. The simple MP3 file drag-and-drop method works best for me from the Mac Finder.

I do not plan to try the photo, radio or video functions.

Battery life is long. I like that the player charges with a standard mini-USB plug to a computer or an AC charger.

I bought four differently-branded MP3 players recently on Amazon based on user reviews, Mac compatibility and perceived simplicity. I rate the Archos Vision highest. Surprisingly, the Coby MP 610 is a close runner-up in wanted features. In third place is the Sansa Clip. The screen is painfully small. Otherwise, it's surprisingly simple. Last is the Philips GoGear Vibe. It has a small screen, and the added features, menus and side buttons increase complexity. I rate all these players as great alternatives to the iPod for Mac users. All use the mini-USB charging cable.

I recieved the mp3 player in very fast shipping time. It is very easy to down load music in to it. The sound is great. The pictures are so clear and the colors are fantastic. I have had other mp3 players but none of them compare to this one. It is so compact and fits in my hand so nice. Even the appearance of the Archos is great. Thank you Amazon.

From the description (including the Archos website) it seemed like this would be a simple drag & drop device with good bang for the buck. My files loaded easily enough, but unfortunately my mpeg videos would not play as it would just report "File format error". In the tech specs section of the device website I found this footnote on videos "Certain bitrates, resolutions, and/or file variations may not be compatible.", which I guess turned out to be my case. Oh, and the box that was shipped to me from Amazon had the seal broken already, so I suspect somebody else was also disappointed in this device and returned it. With capacity of 4GB for music, FM tuner, etc, it isn't a total waste, but it wasn't up to my expectations.
