OK -- if you say the base is marble, I'll take your word for it. Mine looks like plain black rock. Not really a problem -- I didn't buy this for the base!

Overall, this is an extremely high-quality lamp. It looks gorgeous, and is mechanically sound -- which is important with something as big as this. This is a big lamp, with a HUGE arc, and it will be a definite conversation piece in your living room. Ours is in my photo studio lounge, and clients always comment on how beautiful it is.

Assembly was not trivial -- some mechanical skill is required. It took me about 45 minutes to put it together properly. HIghly recommended.

I helped my mother with this purchase. She always admired mine and wanted one of her own, so we went on a search. The arc lamp chosen was this one from Amazon and I can say everything about it is better than mine! The marble is nicely beveled, the metal "arc" has a curved channel for the wiring, quite impressive. We have not assembled it yet, but the quality of this piece is obvious. I wish I could switch! If your looking for this type of lamp, search no further. The price can't be beat!

My wife and I love this lamp in our living room. We had a lamp like this almost 40 yrs ago and we decided to go retro when we redid our living room. Bought a 8 piece sectional couch with 5 recliners and we needed a lamp to arc into the center of the sectional.After much shopping we bought this lamp and LOVE IT. Just a suggestion, get a floor dimmer switch to attach to this lamp.So when you dont want the 60 watt shining so bright you can tone it down and set a mellow mood. BUY THIS LAMP

Saw a similar lamp on HGTV and looked for it in New York City. Saw the original design there at a price of $2,500. Out of my league. Looked on Amazon and found this one. It is a copy but has the look of the real thing. I wanted a lamp to read under but without cords stretched across the room. With this one the marble base hugs the wall and the arc puts the lamp over my head. It is high enough so that no one hits it when they stand up or sit down. In New York City they had a silver bowl bulb in the lamp which prevents the light from shining directly down. I bought a silver bowl bulb from Amazon; there were none available where I live. Totally happy with the lamp and the bulb.

Love this lamp. Could not bring myself to pay for the original, but this copy is excellent. Looks great, throws cool shadows on the ceiling. Need two people to assemble it comfortably, instructions are bad, but assembly is not complicated. Oh, and the base weighs A LOT. The black one I got I put on the scale. 130 lb without packaging. We had trouble dragging this upstairs.

The lamp arrived in no time on great quality. It looks fantastic, much better than on picture. The marble base is a great and solid addition, so I do not have to fear if I fall asleep while reading. The price is highly acceptable and my room looks sophisticated.

Not so long ago we changed our living furniture, and chose modern design instead of the old classic look. This fantastic lamp was the cherry on the cake, the best addition possible. I love every small detail of it.
