1.0 out of 5 stars Worst calculus prep ever!
This book does not give you enough practice on calculus. The author gives you an idea of how to do some of the problems by giving easy examples. The practice ap exams are too easy. This book is much worse than Barron's ap calculus prep book, which gives you more than 50 MC in each chapter and more than 200 further practice problems. Barron's book also includes 4 practice...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely THE Best Prep for the AP Calc Exam, April 28, 2001
I'm an AP Calc teacher who has searched for an extraordinary resource to help prepare my students for the exam. This is it!! My students have found Mr. Kelley's explanations to be clear, concise, and easy to follow. The Hands On Activities have been very successful with my students in explaining a concept in the simplest of terms. A huge bonus to both my students and me is that this book is also fun to read. Mr. Kelley has included his fabulous sense of humor in the text and the example problems. It is a treat! My students have enjoyed this book so much that they have even asked to read it aloud in class!! Mr. Kelley definitely knows his calculus and he also knows how to write to appeal to students! If you can only purchase one AP prep book, this must be THE ONE!!!!

Okay. So you are calculus student scared out of your wits because you are taking or will be taking a rigorous calculus AB or BC course, and you want to get yourself a prep book so that you'll do well.

I was in your situation a year ago. And I went online to get a prep book, but I didn't know which one to get. Do you find yourself in this situation?

Then BUY THIS BOOK! Why? Because this is the ONLY, the absolute ONLY, AP prep book that is written with a voice. You can either buy this book, written by a witty, experienced, high school teacher who teaches teen-agers just like YOU, or you can buy another Princeton Review written by snooty PhD who doesn't know how to communicate with young people and explain concepts to them. I read this book over the summer before my class, and it was clear enough for me to go through all 663 pages by myself since it was written with GREAT humor, insight, charm, WIT (and lots of it), so I felt like I had an actual teacher sitting next to me, teaching me. When I took a predictor test at the end of my summer study, I got a four. So before I even entered the class, I was in AP-credit range, thanks to this book.

Now, all I have to worry about is polishing up my skills. Yet even now, this book is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to me.

Why, you ask?

Have you ever tried reading a college calculus book? These things are useful as paperweights, and paperweights only. I refer to this book instead. And whenever I miss a lecture or don't understand something, this book is always at my side. And whenever, I encounter stupid problems, I do a Kelley-AP-Prep problem instead, and I get the same understanding, along with all the humor, without all the hassle.

If I hadn't bought this book, I don't think I'd be getting a solid A in my BC Calc class. It has been the easiest, most enjoyable math class I've ever taken. I love it.

Mr. Kelley, I wish to thank you for this book, as well as for your autograph! You've made my life a whole lot easier!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Aide For the AP Test, July 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Arco Master the Ap Calculus Ab & Bc Test 2002 : Teacher-Tested Strategies and Techniques for Scoring High (Master the Ap Calculus Ab & Bc Test, 2002) (Paperback)
This book was probably the best out of all of the AP test books and was probably a major factor in why I got a 5 on the AP test, although I have made 5's on all of my tests so far (Government, U.S. History, Calculus, English, Biology, Chemistry) this test was probably the easiest thanks to this excellent book. I spent about a week working on this book before the AP test and learned twice as much as I had during the school year (i didn't go to most of my classes :)) and the book put it in a manner that it was totally understandable, concise and MEMORABLE. I didn't forget anything on the test day and I still remember it all. Thanks Mr. Kelley.

5.0 out of 5 stars this book is awesome, July 4, 2002

If it had not been for this book, I would not have survived my first year of Calculus. And the TWO AP practice tests (for Calc AB; there are also two for BC) in this book were at the same difficulty level of the real test unlike other highly recommended sources (like Princeton's review) that were also used in my classroom!

This review is from: Arco Master the Ap Calculus Ab & Bc Test 2002 : Teacher-Tested Strategies and Techniques for Scoring High (Master the Ap Calculus Ab & Bc Test, 2002) (Paperback)
My son was a Junior in High School last semester. He was taking his Calculus I class via the Internet from our local college.
He says that this book was pretty helpful in understanding a lot of the concepts that he needed to grasp because the professor that conducts this class is pretty tough! Because of not having a "live" class to get the benefit of oral instruction, my son feels that this book is pretty useful and plans to continue using this book as he progresses on into Calculus II and III during his Senior year of high school.
He also likes the humor...

If you need help with calculus or just want more practice for the AP test, this is the book for you! Mr. Kelley is the reason I got a 5 on the AP Calculus test, so his book is very highly recommended. This book is entertaining as well as helpful. Mr. Kelley's sense of humor as well as incredible knowledge of calculus is a winning combination that makes it so much easier to learn, because it helps relieve the tedious and painful aspects of calculus that so many people feel. It will be a book you like even if you don't like math, and especially if you do!

My AP Calculus teacher has used Mr. Kelley's book extensively in our class to clarify topics that are not covered well in our textbook. This book has been the PERFECT aid in helping me to understand calculus! You only need to purchase ONE AP prep book---THIS ONE! This book covers topics much more clearly than Barron's or Princeton Review. I know because I've tried both. Another huge plus to this book is the fabulously entertaining writing style that Mr. Kelley uses. He definitely knows how to write to appeal to high school students! My advice----YOU MUST BUY THIS BOOK!!!! It's great!!

This book is wonderful! It is extraordinarily helpful, and helpfully extraordinary (if that made any sense)! Mr. Kelley is the Albert Einstein of today -- well, er... *cough* maybe not. But his book is fabulous! Buy it today!

4.0 out of 5 stars keeps it simple, February 14, 2003

This review is from: Arco Master the Ap Calculus Ab & Bc Test 2002 : Teacher-Tested Strategies and Techniques for Scoring High (Master the Ap Calculus Ab & Bc Test, 2002) (Paperback)
I have found this book, thus far, to be very helpful in my first year of Calculus(Calculus AB). I originally purchased this book only for some additional practice on the AP type of questions; however, I have found this book to really be quite useful throughout the year. There have been numerous times when I have fallen asleep or just 'spaced out' in class, however this book has allowed me to catch up and fully understand the material I missed. This book also allows you to get ahead of the class on your own fairly easily,... but that's only if you actually want to do it. The explanations found in this book are kept in plain simple English, making it easy to grasp the material at hand. I would recommend this book to someone who wants to have the material explained in friendly English. Calculus does not have to be hard at all, and this book does a good job proving it.

the practice questions in this book (also after each chapter) cover all the topics well and range from easy to the more tricky ones with full explanations. i give it between 4-5 stars cuz it was easy to use (even though i didnt read it all i just did some practice questions and skimmed over it), and it covered most topics and skills
