Great jacket. It's thin and lightweight but perfectly insulates you from the weather. I am wearing it over just a shirt and don't feel the cold down to at least zero Fahrenheit (-20 C). It's not even the warmth feeling that you might get in a parka, it just feels comfortable. Minor drawbacks: it's fairly short, so don't expect to cover your bottom on a chairlift, and the shoulders feel a little too voluminous. Otherwise, it's fitted well, does not allow the air to circulate through and take the warmth away. I am 5'8'' (173 cm) and 160 lb (73 kg), and the medium fits me well.

I was very hesitant to spend so much on a coat, but, I swear, I've never enjoyed an article of clothing so much. It has served me well on cold and snowy trips this winter throughout Scandinavia and all types of, mostly wet, weather in the Pacific Northwest. It is extremely light, compact, warm, and comfortable. It easily compresses and is great for stuffing into a backpack or suitcase. There is ALWAYS room to throw it in and it is never too heavy to regret taking it along. It keeps me quite warm, and the fabric breathes well enough so that it, almost magically, never seems to get too warm or damp. It doesn't seem to saturate even with fairly heavy rains. It also seems to be fairly stain resistant. The fit really contours to the body, especially the articulated elbows, so that it never feels bulky. Pockets, fasteners, and draw strings are in just the right places. The hood can be zipped into the collar and adjusts well so that it never blows off my head. I especially like the wide, netted internal pocket; it's great for carrying a hat and gloves and easily accessible. Only two drawbacks come to mind. The collar is a bit high and stiff. While I'm thankful for it on the coldest of days, it can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable. I'm also not crazy about the choice of colors. Black and navy seem like impractical choices, and the other colors tend to be rather loud. All in all, well worth it, in my opinion.

Favorite Winter Jacket,

Got this jacket last year to give a bit more insulation than my old North Face Mountain LT shell. I looked at Patagonia, NF, HH and all the others. This jacket (for me) was the best fit, look, feel and performance for use as an everyday winter jacket in the Northern VA area.
My field test was an 18deg snowy day in Rochester NY with only a Tshirt & thin turtleneck. I was out for a moderate walk (not generating a lot of body heat) for over an hour and a half in balanced comfort. Love the big hood and how it tucks neatly into the large collar. When collar is zipped up - great neck warmth. Only down side is expense, but it was same with all other jackets I looked at. With a lifetime guarantee - this one should be good for a while like the NF MT LT I bought back in '91 that is still going strong!
